I've been passing by one their locations for almost a year and just decided to go when my son was visiting. Omg...brisket almost as good as mine! Moist brisket to be exact. It was smoked to perfection. And the cream corn is like none I've ever had. Definitely not "good for you" but oh so good! We also had the jalapeño sausage, the mild sausage, the ribs and baked beans. Everything was good. The only downer is that the beans aren't sweet like we're used to. Be sure to tell them you're a newbie so you can sample everything first. No surprises then. And the indoor outdoor seating smells like burning oak...mmmm!

Thanks to my fellow Yelpers, we found this gem! Living in Texas now, there are so many options with BBQ. Of course the locals have recommended lots of places, we are slowly but surely will try them. This place is a nice restaurant slash gas station. Don't let the gas station part fool you though. When I first saw it on some of the reviews I was like, gas station? Probably be some old grungy truck stop/rest stop. NOPE, I was wrong! We arrived to this restaurant and entered form an indoor open air section. Then you go through another door and there's the restaurant part. As you review the menu you can grab a bottled beer and/or bottled soda and enjoy while you wait in line. They ask you if you'd been there before and if not the whole staff welcomes you with a "Hello Rookies!" They let you sample the turkey, briskets (there's regular, moist, and extra moist), and creamed corn. Everything is bought by the pound or half of the item. For a party of 5, we bought a half link sausage, half pound turkey, half pound brisket, half rack of baby back ribs, pint of potato salad, quart of beans, quart creamed corn, 2 beers, 2 bottled sodas, and 2 regular drinks for about $70.00. Oh and they also give you free loaf bread. Not the whole bag but a good amount. The food was MUY BUENO!!!! They also have their famous sauce for sale and bottled provided on the table. Let me tell you, this place is LEGIT!! It was so good and filling. The store is not big but had your necessities, beer, drinks, candy, etc. I even walked over to buy a beer at the store at went back to the table. We didn't even notice the gas station part until walking to the store and looking put the door. We will definitely be coming here again. The dangerous part is living 15min away from this gem. Please be sure to try the creamed corn. Mmmm!!! The customer service is awesome. Friendly staff and they don't rush you which I appreciate. Rudy's has definitely got my attention!

The BEST Texas BBQ I've ever had! This place is awesome.. Very country style and the real taste of a good bbq! The meat was delicious and the staff was very friendly... Was my first time here and I high recommend! Check it out! Worth every penny! :)

I called in and asked if I could order some food for pickup. I explained I was in a wheelchair and not feeling good enough to pull my chair out of the car and come in. After being put on hold several times and having to repeat myself to the same girl 3 times I was passed to the Manager. I explained to him that I don't have the strength to come in and he was very short with me and not helpful at all. I can hear it in his voice that he was annoying him with my request. I understand if your busy, a simple " normally I'd have no problem but we are in a rush at the moment and there is a whole line in front of you. There might be a long wait or it's tuff to do at the moment " That would have been better then making the customer feel like they shouldn't ask for those type of request. I'm confused because I thought Texas is know for their Hospitality.. But this is a chain, so I guess $ was more of a focus.. I'm sure the food is great, unfortunately I will never try it now.

Way over priced and overrated. I'm so very disappointed to say. I've lived in RR for two years and finally tired it. My gf never wanted to go and I see why. Nothing special I must say. The cashiers must be former call center employees because they go way out of their way to talk to you.. To a fault and get annoying. I just want to eat.. Potato salad was not my cup of tea. Speaking of tea, sweet tea was super bland. Usually don't like my mustard salad so sweet. Wish I could have added more mustard.. Where was the mustard? I think I'll drive a little further and go back to my favorite. No not salt lick..

Delicious BBQ. Friendly service. Brisket was very good. My husband ordered the pork ribs and really enjoyed it. The sausage - both original and jalapeño was great. The sides were also very delicious (cream of corn, potato salad, and cole slaw). As busy as it was... I wish there was a bigger restroom. I felt bad when my son needed to use the restroom but there are only two stalls and they were both occupied. Oh well, better then those places with just one restroom so it wasn't a much of a bother. Will definitely be back when I crave BBQ or cream of corn for sure.

Absolutely love Rudy's!!! It is so delicious, my favorite bbq in the Round Rock area! My favorite is the pulled pork and cream corn... Mmm! Definitely a place to bring friends and family to!

We have a raging debate in our family: My husband wants the extra lean brisket, and I want the extra moist. Instead of getting both we often roll the dice with the 'cutters choice' option! Whatever the cutter has on their board, or can grab the quickest is the style you get! Who else helps ensure marital bliss at the dinner table??? Truth be told my husband really loves the breakfast tacos. He probably stops here once a week! My rib addiction has continued and Rudy's did not disappoint. Our favorite sides are the creamed corn (how did I go 10 years without knowing this was here???) and the all time favorite banana pudding! We often call ahead and pick up at the counter when we have family at the house. Its great to skip that long line when you are alone just picking up. They make sure you have bread and make sure to ask for sissy sauce if you have any weaklings in your family (ME!). Our office is often here at lunch too! Fun and fast with easy clean up and plenty of parking all the way toward Double Dave's/Bingo. AND you can go through the car wash right there in the parking lot if your in a milti-tasking mood!

Really good BBQ and small corner store in one. Love their pork ribs, seasoned great, and everything else is always good, honestly, its a lot better than the salt lick in Driftwood, in my opinion. And their BBQ sauce is some the best I've ever had. Need BBQ quick, here is your place, and its really good.

I ABSOLUTELY love this place. My brother, who is the biggest BBQ critic in the world, finds this place agreeable too. I have not particularly liked "American BBQ," but this place has changed my stance on that. I had resisted going here in the past and now I wish I hadn't. The first thing I had was a loaded baked potato. You can excuse this choice because I got this order the first time I gave this place a chance. BUT hey, there was still bbq meat in it! I got the brisket added to it and it was phenomenal. It was way too filling and a terribly unhealthy meal, but who cares? No one eats BBQ thinking it's good for their health and well being. Since then, every visit of mine has composed of getting the moist brisket and a sausage. They sell their meats priced per half a pound. If you're getting the lean brisket from here, then you mine as well get your bbq from Arby's (Arby's has BBQ right?)... You get what I'm trying to convey. If you don't let me spell it out for you (=P) if you're not getting the moist brisket, you need to be. They cook it so well and the several times I've now been to this restaurant it hasn't failed me. They have a few sausage options and you can get a whole sausage or a half order. Their jalapeno sausage is good and it's the one I always order now. I can't remember their other types at the moment because the jalapeno one has become my go to. They have a "condiment" bar which (outside of the normal condiments) has jalapenos, pickled carrots, pickles, cherry jalapenos (I think that's what they're called), raw onions, and plastic bags for you to take some home with you if you have a to go order. I normally get a large order if we decide to do family night at home but want outside food. Most large orders come with a loaf of bread and a bottle of their bbq sauce. They have two (2) types of BBQ sauce, original or sissy sauce. The original is spicier than the sissy sauce. I prefer the taste of the sissy sauce better though, despite having a love for spicy things. To go orders don't take a long time so no need to call ahead unless you're going at peak hours. One complaint, they have hard paper towels that are in rolls around the restaurant that are like those at truck stops. They don't work very well.

I am a regular at various Rudy's across the state as I travel, but this one is my favorite one with the exception of the original Rudy's off of I-10 west of San Antonio. They are always nice and the brisket.. Well I can always cut and slice it with the side of my plastic fork. The sausage is tender and juicy, not greedy though and very flavorful! Well done again Round Rock Rudy's!

Ok, I had raving reviews told to me as I stood in line. I over bought going off 3 generations of family reviews. I bought moist brisket, potato salad, cream corn and tea. Plus 4 free slices of bread to make sandwiches. The BBQ sauce was so spicy my husband and I had a tummy ache after lunch. If we would have left the sauce off, the meal would have been just OK. Not ideal if you don't like hot n over spicy sauce.

Okay, I loved this place. The brisket was amazing. Moist and tender. The baby back ribs were excellent. And I loved the BBQ sauce choices. The beans were flavorful and the creamed corn was different and delicious. Definitely go if you're in town. Sure, the gas station setting is unusual, but doesn't all the best BBQ come from gas stations?!

We live just a few miles south of this location and somehow we always forget and still make the drive out to the one on 183. Well, the last two times coming here I actually remembered and both experiences were exactly how i expected Rudy's to be. Its a Shell gas station thats attached and dont let the outside fool you. The inside is very spacious and even in this cold weather, the outside seating has plenty of heat lamps to and it is covered to keep your tush warm! The line hasnt been too long the times I have been there but i cant speak for rush hour times. The staff is friendly and as always, there's usually a manager walking the line making sure everyone is happy and ushering them to their cashier to keep the pace going. The onions and pickles area as well as the soda area is kept super clean. As in, someone is wiping that thing every 5 minutes. No lie. There is a person standing there and as soon as i squeezed the lemon in my sweet tea and walked away, he was right behind me to wipe it up. I always get the extra moist brisket, cream corn, and real potatoes. I dont change. I dont need to change. This is perfect for me. I heart Rudy's.

OMG! That has got to be the best BBQ Restaurant at a gas station/convenience store I have EVER had!! I passed the restaurant twice but so glad I found that gem for my first TX meal! They have nerve to give you samples to get you hooked immediately! The moist brisket makes you want to cuss! It's so tender and delicious. The sausage. The turkey. The "Sause"!! Oh and not to mention that creamed corn! Everything superb! TX is definitely not a diet state...Houston (well Round Rock) we have a (good) problem! Lol

From Maine to Austin...this place is so delicious. Great counter service and plenty of condiments available although eating it without sauce..would still b amazing!

Just had the St. Louis style pork ribs. I was a little disappointed. Too much gristle and not nearly as good as the ones I just had last weekend at Richard's Smokehouse. I usually get the brisket and it's always been better than most of the other chain BBQs. I'll go back to it next time. The creamed corn was great, as was the chocolate pudding. 3.5 stars.

Filled up with gas the other day and the auto-shut-off failed spilling a gallon or so of fuel before i could get to it. Mgr made me wait, did not apologize or offer a refund. The grab and breakfast burritos continue to get sloppier.

Ain't a darn thing wrong with Ruby's. We stop in mostly for breakfast tacos (basic but good. Get two! They are pretty small.) And we stop in for 'nana puddin' (get two of those too - you won't want to share!) The brisket is very good. I usually get turkey though too. Basic Texas BBQ. Good meat. Good sides. Good sauce. It may not be the "best award winning BBQ" in Austin, but it's good. The food is consistent. The staff is friendly. So unless we are motivated to drive or stand in line, it's our quick and easy stop BBQ. It's our first choice for grabbing breakfast tacos. Nope... ain't a darn thing wrong with Rudy's!

I'm giving this restaurant 2 stars for the potato salad. My boyfriend and I visited this restaurant during a trip to see his family. They all knew that the only meat I eat is fish, so I was disappointed when they chose this restaurant for our large party. We originally planned to have dinner with one other couple, but their teenage kids needed to eat too, which led to other people being invited. One of them suggested that I bring my own veggie wrap. After deciding to order potato salad and creamed corn (which were really my only two options), I was told that they were out of creamed corn. Okay. I'll have some f*cking potato salad. I didn't want to go to dinner in the first place, since my anxiety was out of control, but I did it for my boyfriend and his sister. They told me that their family would be offended. I wasn't at all offended (sarcasm) that they openly chose a restaurant with two things I could eat, one of which the restaurant was out of. The potato salad was excellent. What else can I say? I wanted to stay at the hotel and have some quiet time and try to get over my anxiety, but I didn't want to offend people. I was tired, cranky and in pain. I was willing to walk a quarter of a mile on a sprained ankle to get back to our hotel. I wanted to sneak out, but my boyfriend wouldn't let me. I felt like a trapped rat. I have about 30 minutes of free time now and I'm using it to complain to other Yelpers. I hope someone can relate. I would suggest that Rudy's add some vegetable and fish items to their menu, but they're not suffering. Their business is booming.

First of all, the brisket is absolutely amazing. Secondly, sauce is delicious, but genuinely, the brisket is perfect regardless. Service is fast and friendly, definitely a great place for quick (or relaxed, great for hanging out with lots of seating!) mid-day lunch breaks with co-workers or friends. Someone in our party reviewed the banana pudding as "good, but not great", but ultimately that did not detract from her overall experience. She also claims to make the "best banana pudding of all time", so take this note with a grain of salt as her opinion may be biased. The star side would have to be the creamed corn. Sweet but not overwhelmingly dessert-ish. Sweet tea got a thumbs up and a big smile. Would recommend "in a heart beat". Great experience! Thank you for giving us New Englanders the best BBQ we could've ever dreamed of!

All I can say is YUM. Moist brisket and sausage are amazing. And the cream corn is nothing short of heaven. I've only been in Round Rock a short time, but have tried a few great places. This is now at the top of the list for when friends and family come to visit!

I may not know my BBQ but woah! This place is pretty amazing! First off, you walk in and the staff asked if it's your first time. We got to sample anything not off the bone (WHAT? REALLY? FREE SAMPLES?!). And you buy based on the pound! The employee we had was SO friendly and nice. He asked us where we were from if we had never been to Rudy's (caught us! We're from Jersey!). The extra moist brisket was OUT OF THIS WORLD. I still salivate thinking about it. Seriously, get it. Screw the lean, healthy cut. Get this! We also got the baby back ribs, which is best with some of their amazing bbq sauce. For sides, we got the potato salad, beans and cream of corn. The corn was my favorite and I would swim in that all day if I could. The prices were reasonable for how good the food was. We were stuffed afterwards and happy. When we drove by it later, I began crying and begging for more of that brisket. Yup - it's that good.

The first BBQ I tried when visiting Texas. I still love their moist brisket, creamed corn, and beans. The chicken is also very most. I know their are better BBQ spots around, but considering the no frills get some brisket and bring it home with no hassle, no waiting in line, etc it is pretty good.

    (4)
  • Matthew T.

Cannot count how many times I have been here. Hands down the best "big" BBQ chain of all time. It's about seasoned meat not DRENCHING your meat in sauce. Can I get an AMEN??!? Baby back ribs are so freaking most, fall off the bone, smack your momma good! The brisket has always been great. I have found if you get the extra moist you get the deep smoked flavor and the charr. Both the hottie and original sausage is great. I have never liked cream corn until I tried Rudy's. Just go try the place out you will love it.

This seems to be a local chain, and this location can be hard to miss, and a little tricky to get to being off the service road, before and exit, or dodging through a giant mall parking lot. It's right beside or behind a Shell gas station. The inside has lots of seating areas, with giant overhead fans and wooden benches. They definitely look like they have the feel right, and the pickup area has cute touches. A drive through wooden area of signage, metal utensils stuck and paved into the concrete. The BBQ is solid, but not the best I've had in the area. The sauce they give you has HFCS, but it has a great tomato base that is pretty flavorful. The pork ribs are nice and smokey, have a hint of garlic salt/powder to them, but are done right. Brisket is solid too, but not mindblowing. All the meats have a good touch of smoke to them as well. Excellent sides here, with the slaw, the corn (which my compatriots really dug), and a very decent potato salad. A good worthy Q stop.

Been eating their breakfast tacos for about four years now -- Always fantastic. Imagine my surprise when I discovered not all Rudy's prepare them the same. Most of the "others" prepare the potatoes such that the skins are black (and the insides are soggy). We've eaten them in Waco and Colorado Springs -- but NONE of the stores does it like Rudy's in Round Rock - they are unique and worth going there. Our grandkids love them.

I came here for their BBQ but realized it doesn't get served until 10:30am. I opted for two breakfast tacos that contained bacon, sausage, potato, eggs, and cheese. I added the green salsa and bbq sauce. OMG it was delicious! I'm not a huge breakfast taco/burrito person, but these were good and cheap. For the price of $2 bucks, you can't ask for more. They also had the spicy chop, which was bbq shredded meat, I didn't like it too much, so I didn't get it. Overall, quick to order and quick to get your food. They also have sides you can buy like coleslaw and potato salad. They also have long pickles, but also the chopped ones which are free as condiments. You can pack all of your sauces to go in containers. Amazing place that is inside a gas station!

Spicy links creamed corn and lean brisket are all amazing. A great representation of CENTEX BBQ. Their 'sause'is spicy and delicious. Stop in next time you fill up your tank and you will not be disappointed. (213)

This BBQ restaurant and convenience store has some fantastic BBQ food. I love how the store lets you sample the different items before ordering. The patio has a nice wood fireplace as well. I recommend the moist brisket.

Great bbq. Best price for taste ratio. Definitely on the cheaper side when it comes to bbqs. Best items to get are brisket and creamed corn. If it's your first time they'll give u a sampling of meet to try. Great atmosphere - located in a gas station and they do a great job of branding. Fast and friendly service with about a 15 minute wait in line.

We were visiting our Texas friends (we live in Massachusetts) and when they declared they were going to pick us up some BBQ from a gas station we were pretty skeptical. However, as soon as the food arrived and we dug into it, all worries were dispelled. We had the moist brisket, two kinds of sausages, ribs, coleslaw, buttered potatoes, and creamed corn. I ate everything but the creamed corn (yuck) and it was all tasty as heck. The ribs were really the stand out - awesome dry rub, melty without being greasy, and a great flavor. We enjoyed the food so much that we packed up the leftovers and took them on the plane ride home with us the next day. Rudy's, we love you, come to New England!!

  • Carolyn S.

Excellent BBQ! I've only had the brisket and the ribs, and both are great. Brisket extra lean is good but I prefer their moister options. And Rudy's BBQ sauce is great! When it comes to sides, I had potato salad and creamed corn - both on point. I approve!

  • Renee F.

Love this place. Just moved here from CA and was SO impressed. Love their turkey, their sausage, and their brisket. Their sides were good and so was their sweet tea. Definitely have gone multiple times in the past months!

  • Jason S.

Texas tourist here, so I had to hit multiple BBQ spots of course! This Rudy's didn't disappoint at all, everything was great and filled three of us for $50! Creamed corn was delicious too.

    (5)
  • Melissa K.

love the extra moist brisket! The creamed corn is my guilty pleasure. I like making an all-inclusive sandwich with the white bread with the meat, creamed corn, bbq sauce, fresh onions, and a BUNCH of pickles :) It's nothing fancy, but dang good to eat :) if you have room after, their puddings are pretty delish too :)

  • David T.

I ordered the moist brisket and pork loin with a side of cole slaw. The moist brisket was great. Very juicy and lean, extremely flavorful. The pork was a little dry but tasty. The slaw was really good not anything special just a solid tasty slaw. They have one bbq sauce that I didn't care much for it was a little heavy on the pepper and they should throw some sugar or molasses into it to cut it a bit and make it a little less bitter. But if you don't want to wait hours behind bearded guys in skinny jeans for great brisket then Rudys is a solid choice you won't be disappointed. I will say though I would only go with the brisket but I have yet to try the ribs. (They only offer pork not beef ribs by the way)

    (3)
  • Fizza S.

Love it! When I went there for the first time they made me try both the lean and moist options for the brisket as well as the cream corn! Loved both the briskets but I preferred the moist one- really good. The chicken was decent and the cream corn was heavenly! Love their tea as well and they have a really big seating area. Loved the overall experience!

Best bbq in Austin ! Went in tonight to get dinner for the family my host was Dana , I put down a 10$ for tip & she couldn't except it witch sucks because she was super helpful & nice so I decided to write this review.

I'm giving it a 5 because it's one of my favorite places for breakfast tacos. I do like their brisket, too. And most of their sides. Real good banana pudding.

  • Chris P.

When I say "woohoo as good as it gets" what I mean more precisely is "watch out you have a high probability of eating too much and feeling fat because the food is AMAZING". I got the sampler at the register because I had never been there before, that was fun because they made a production of it. I got 1/4 pound lean brisket and 1/4 pound turkey, both were delicious. The cream corn was a little creamy for my tastes, but I can't complain. I really dig the family-style seating which forces humans to be social. Overall tasty, interesting, creative, fast, and delicious!

Rudy's, while not the absolute best Texas BBQ I've ever had (that crown belongs to Cooper's or Snow's), is probably a very close second best and is incredibly consistent across all locations. The concept is great, vibe is cool...and the St Louis Pork Ribs to die for. My recommendation? Get a half pound of ribs, quarter pound of cutter's choice brisket & also a quarter pound of turkey. That and some sides will leave you with some leftovers for dinner. Also, get some brisket to go and put it on a baked potato. It's delish!

  • David B.

Rudy's is our default Bar-B-Q place. I can't remember a single time anyone said No when Rudy's was suggested as a destination. The meat is great and so is the sauce. They even have Dr Pepper in the bottle made with real cane sugar, not corn syrup. Tell them that it is your first time and they will all shout "Rookie" and then offer you the option of a free sample of everything but the ribs.

This was awesome. I went here my first night visiting Austin. My local buddy drove us all the way from Manor to Round Rock because he swore by Rudy's. Thankfully, he was correct. I have a tendency to slam chains because I believe local places offer better food and service, but Rudy's might be an exception to that rule. It had some of the most delicious pork and brisket I've ever had the pleasure of tasting. Succulent. Moist. Seasoned perfectly. It was divine. Also, they have a terrific soda selection. I was thrilled to find Dublin Dr. Pepper in the crates, not that I should have been surprised by it being offered in Dr. Pepper's native Texas (Sidenote: I love Texas for how much Dr. Pepper advertising is everywhere). The best kind of Dr. Pepper, delicious food, fast service even with the crowds, and a cool atmosphere? I'd gladly go here again. It was a great introduction to Austin.

I had a bad experience at Rudy's Round Rock location last Fri night (7/17/15). I ordered 3 lbs of brisket, 1 lb of turkey, 1 1/2 sausage links and 3 1/2 quarts of sides, (over $100 worth of food) and that wasn't enough to get a bottle of sauce to go with the meal. I even talked to the manager who didn't seem to care that I entertain about once a week and order from them frequently. The cashier told me I was a ¼ of a pound short of getting the bottle of sauce. That is ridiculous! Now you don't get a bottle of sauce unless you order 5 lbs of meat, no exceptions! Now I'm considering using someone else for my small dinner parties. Haven't decided who I'm using yet for Sat night...

As a self-identified North American vegetarian, I love this place! A lot of other BBQ places only serve fat meat, and lots of it (e.g. plates or bulk combo orders), which is not compatible with us vegetarians, which don't eat that much meat, and only eat the less caloric meat to start with. Here, you can get as much or as little meat as you want. They also give out complementary bread; they generally seem to suggest 1 slice per 0.1lb. But as a vegetarian, I generally ask for about 2 slices per 0.1lb instead. Actually cheaper to be a vegetarian? Score! For a vegetarian, I would highly recommend turkey, and the extra lean brisket is usually pretty good, too, although not necessarily extra lean all the time. The new potatoes are great, too. If you are not a normal NA vegetarian -- e.g. if you don't eat any meat at all (e.g. you're the weird one) -- then this is probably a wrong place for you. Almost all items have some meat in it. Why not 5*? Well, they only have white bread. We vegetarians like wheat. Also, no tomatoes or lettuce. They do have pickled cucumbers and fresh onion rings, so, that does provide for a bit of green stuff for the sides.

This Rudy's location is one of my happy places. Great folks at the counter - always friendly but not too friendly. Cleanest place ever with a patio that's warm and comfy in winter and sunny and comfy in summer. The breakfast tacos are my favorite followed by the standard brisket cutters choice. I love their refill drink policy - I keep Rudys cups in my car. Honestly, if I'm having a bad morning I specifically go here to improve my mood.

I love Rudy's!!! Why do you need to drive all the way to Lockhart? I did and tried Blacks and Kreuz Market on the same day to try the meat, you know the reason we drive all that way.. the brisket, the good stuff. Now granted I didn't ask for bark cut out in Lockhart...but none the less. I love the taste of Rudy's bbq the best considering its right down the road and I didn't have to drive dont wont, didn't have to wait 3 hours in line starting at 6 am, and I can get it after 3 pm if I want to. Rudy's doesn't sell sandwiches, or combos etc. They sell it by the lb. they offer it in 3 increments of price 1) moist cut 2) lean cut 3) cutter's choice and they have a cut cam to watch the brisket being cut and you see all the juicy goodness. SIDES great potato salad!! beans are good too, they offer small potatoes, coleslaw, banana and choc puddings, never have tried any of the latter b/c why would when the potato salad and beans are so good? and sometimes you just have to save room for the good stuff... the brisket!

Thanks for the horrible food poisoning. Appreciate it. I have been eating at Rudy's since I can remember and it used to be really good BBQ. Now, many years have passed a lot of new BBQ places have opened and Rudy's is just plain inferior now. The brisket lacked flavor or any smoke, the ribs tasted like pork. No flavor. Just pork. Liked boiled pork, dirty boiled pork. The chicken was decent (never ordered that before) and the sausage was your typical sausage. The creamed corn was still good and the beans were just ok. Waay over priced for mediocre BBQ. Try another place next time! Johnny Ts is great and I'm sure other places around are too. Trust Yelp!

Rudy's is always serving great bbq. The prices are great, and the service is always top notch. The brisket, chicken and ribs are moist. The sausage is not too greasy either. The sides are just as delicious as the meats. They even have breakfast tacos for the morning crowd.

In most cities on Earth this would be the best BBQ in town. In the Austin area it is merely very good. But Rudy's gets major points for being good and easy. Lines are short and move quickly, plenty of tables. Great drink options. When you want some great BBQ but don't want to wait in line for hours this is a great option.

Rudy's has decent BBQ, and there really is nothing special at all about it. Years ago I would have rated it higher, but their quality has slid a tiny bit over the years. Their prices are also pretty high, and they have turned their cashiers into living robots who will try to engage you in any kind of conversation they can make with you, even if awkward and painful. I considered writing a comment card to inquire about why they encourage their cashiers to do this, but alas, it's easier just to avoid the place all-together if you don't want to be barraged by questions when trying to simply place an order.

I know it's connected to a gas station, but it's not what you're imagining. This place is great! Our favorite bbq in Texas! Our kids love the hand washing station!

What a success! The staff are very friendly. When we went up to the counter, we were greeted by the register guy. He gave us samples and guided us through the process. We tried 1/2 lb of the moist brisket, 1/2 lb of the pork ribs, potato salad, and beans. All were good. I would just say that if you are going to have beans, you will notice there is no BBQ sauce in it. Other than that, I will be coming back again!

Coming from the Northeast I had never experienced a place like Rudy's before. A co-worker took me there shortly after I moved to Round Rock and I loved every second of it. The interior, the entertaining way of ordering your meal, the quality, etc make Rudy's a must see attraction. It's not the best brisket around and the sides are just average, but the quality is still strong, the BBQ sauce is superb, the prices are great and the overall pleasant experience of ordering make this a solid attraction.

Where everybody knows your name! I see these ladies and gents almost every day and they always greet me by first name, ask me about my day and weekend and try to make it a personal experience. Rudy's is QUICK, COURTEOUS and puts out consistent hot food and service for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Gotta love their car wash ( Wish it was a bit cheaper though ) I can wash my wheels with the provided brush and soap. Can't say enough about this Chain that makes you feel like you stopped into a mom and pop store with personal attention for detail.

Rudy's is fantastic Texas BBQ! I'm all about the Brisket & Potato Salad. Order a bunch of Cutter's Choice, they give you a bunch of white bread, you grab yourself piles of pickles, white onions, and sauce, and make yourself the best BBQ sandwich. Wait, the sauce. Usually when I'm at a different BBQ place I wish that I had Rudy's sauce with me. Even at Salt Lick. YEAH I SAID IT!!! It's my favorite BBQ sauce. I even bought it for my house and you should too. I have to say that Rudy's is my go-to BBQ. I get that you are probably thinking you love Franklin or Salt Lick or whatever, but do you always have time to make some sort of freaky Texan pilgrimage that takes hours? I don't. Rudy's is always close no matter where you reside in town, the service is fast and super friendly, and the BBQ is the real deal.

4.5 stars. The juiciest, moistest, most tender and flavorful brisket I've ever eaten. Evaahh! That about sums it up. But wait, there's more... Stand in line, pick a beverage in the bins along the way, and order some of the best BBQ you'll ever have. Newcomers identify yourself and a complimentary assortment of samples comes to the register to help you make your culinary choice. Three types of terrific beef brisket, pork, ribs and poultry BBQ plus a few sausages. Splurge on the "Moist Brisket". You're welcome. Sides are all good, but try their specialty, creamed corn - delish pardner! Make new friends at the community tables, either air conditioned on the inside or not on the patio. Loss of a half star for protecting the "mother's milk" - the BBQ sauce (or "sause", as they call it. The sause is on the table in big bottles with shaker-type tops. The problem is that the top limits the amount of sause that comes out to barely a trickle, making you look foolish as you coax the wonderful liquid from the bottle. So Rudy, let your sause flow and it's an easy 5-star vote!

Holy cow!- G Yummy!-D Smoked Turkey is so moist and tender, probably the best we've ever had. Lean briscuit is out of this world. The welcome we received for our first visit was very cool. Taste tests, orientation and outstanding service. We will be back, maybe not tonight lol, but very soon.

Fabulous!! I was a rookie so I got to sample everything! The cream corn and brisket were my favorite. I'm not from Texas, so having genuine BBQ was a goal of mine while visiting. Love the butcher paper style serving, and all the drinks on ice!! You don't see that in Washington!!

When I want a quick BBQ fix, Rudy's is our answer. I also like coming here because we have a very active toddler cause it's quick. We always get Brisket-Extra Moist, Sausage Links, Potato Salad. My entire family seems to love the Creamed Corn, but I can't say I'm a fan. Anywhoo, the staff is usually friendly, tables are clean and service is fast. We're repeat customers for life.

Rudy's was the perfect last meal during my stay in Austin. I was a little skeptical when we pulled up and saw that it is located inside of a gas station, but turns out my mom was right when she told me not to judge a book by its cover. I was greeted enthusiastically by a friendly cashier who alerted everyone in the building that it was my first time, and they all yelled "Hey rookie!" Slightly embarrassing, very funny. He let me sample the moist brisket, lean brisket and a slice of turkey. I chose the moist brisket and went with his recommendation to buy 1/4 lb. to make a sandwich. They give you slices of white bread, you grab as many pickles and onions as your heart desires, and then douse it all in delicious Rudy's bbq sauce. I splurged and also bought a glass bottle of IBC root beer, a pint of creamed corn to share with my two dinner mates (way too much corn, in hindsight) and some banana cream pie. I also sampled some coleslaw and potato salad. Everything was excellent. I have a feeling I will be craving Rudy's until I am able to venture back to Texas. And I may or may not go back in the morning for their infamous breakfast tacos on my way out of town. Don't judge me.

Just because I'm from Texas, it doesn't make me a BBQ expert. However, I know when I've had some great BBQ and when I haven't. Rudy's BBQ doesn't hit that mark. I have never been satisified with their BBQ. Either to dry or too fatty. I seriously feel that once a business starts having more than 1 location (with the exception of Jack Allen's), it loses a lot of the passion and great taste. I don't go here willingly unless I have to for work.

I am not a big fan of franchise, but these guys are consistently good, well priced with great atmosphere. They continue to surprise me with the quality of their bbq. Ask for the extra moist - it's a real treat!

Got lots of food...pork ribs (not my fav--a bit peppery), lean brisket (i do enjoy this), sausage (which was okay..again, not a fav), and some nanner puddin'! This is a great place when you want a quick fix for BBQ. It's always good and reliable...it's just not always a total favorite of mine....I do like the home-grown, backyard, kinda bbq joints over this, but like I said. Rudy's is good...and if you don't want to stand in line for hours for BBQ, come here and git you some!

First time here! Overall great experience! Me & the husbo really enjoyed it! Not too complicated ordering, kinda reminds you of a lunch line! Lots of options for meat! The brisket was super yummy!! And if it's your first time they give you samples to try!! Love that the cups are reusable too!!

Great brisket, comfortable seating, casual, and great selection of sides. I am a coleslaw snob and don't usually like my slaw ground to a pulp, but the understated dressing on the Rudy's slaw makes up for the fact that they pulverize their cabbage to bits. The ribs are great and the sausage is above average. Been to a lot of barbeque places and I am always grading the sausage, sides, ribs, and brisket into Top 5 lists, and so far, Rudy's brisket is still at #1. Sausage has fallen to #4 (that is mor a testiment to #s 1-3 than a dig on Rudy's) and the ribs are holding firm at #2. Go, eat some pudding for dessert.. Enjoy.

Rudy's is by far the best BBQ I have ever had! I consistently have an amazing experience here. The flavor of the brisket is unbelievable, they really know how to season meat. The sides are great too, especially the cream corn! I love how you can order just what you want. The sides are a la carte and you ask for exactly the weight of meat that you want. Can't go wrong with Rudy's, thanks for making life even more delicious!

Food was great! I highly recommend the jalapeño sausage and the brisket... The brisket is to die for. Probably the best I have ever had. Took a while, but that it mostly because we came with 20+ people. It was worth the wait.

Sorry if I seem to be explaining common Texas knowledge, but I have to create the scene for my SoCal-based brethren. This is your experience eating here: - Meat is ordered by the pound at the counter. - It's served to you on butcher paper. - Your plates are more butcher paper. - Your tray is actually a milk crate. - As a side, you get an entire loaf of sliced bread. - You find yourself some room among the community tables and chow down. I gotta say, I kinda like eating that way. It's fun, mellow, and low key. None of this high-brow BBQ for me! Onto the food, which was some of the best BBQ I've ever had (that may not be saying much, but damn I enjoyed it). Brisket was so moist and smokey, I wanted to die, it was the best item there. Sausage was divine. Turkey was terrific. And the ribs were rib-tastic! (If you were a Conan fan, you'd understand). And out of the sides, the creamed corn left a permanent impression on my tastebuds.... so good, smooth, rich, with that fresh milk taste. I rarely crave corn, but my mouth is watering right now! Wish I had some sweet tea...

So I had been taking a mini-yelp hiatus while I got acclimated to a new job. I had a bunch of places waiting for review, but had less time than ever. Rudy's has rekindled my flame. This place was awesome. For locals, my review may not mean much, you've probably been here or have your own local favorite. Speaking as an out-of-towner to out-of-towners, please come here if you happen to be in Round Rock. First off, the service was great. Welcoming, friendly, and educational. They asked if it was my first time, I said yes, and they proceeded to give me some of the yummiest samples ever. it was like Costco heaven. After sampling everything I could, I went with a 1/4 lb of the the moist brisket and 1/4 lb of the turkey. The turkey was moist and flavorful, but the brisket was "marbled" and without a doubt, the best brisket I have ever had. Without a doubt! Tender, moist, flavorful. I ate it without sauce as to not taint it's awesomeness. It's been a week since I've been here and I'm still talking about this damn, moist brisket. I may need to seek help. So because I'm a fat ass, I then proceeded back to the counter and ordered a half slab of baby backs and another 1/4 lb of brisket. The baby backs were incredible too. I tried my buddy's St. Louis ribs and while quite good, I preferred the baby backs. Unfortunately, I don't live in the area. I would be back often. I would also always order a 1/2 pound of moist brisket every single time.

After Kev had been churching it up about this place, let me tell you it was pretty good..-. not the best I've ever eaten but pretty damn good. The brisket - moist style i preferred because it just tastes better pulled pork- it was OK turkey- too salty for my taste but has great flavor BBQ Chicken- that too was okay- smoked and little dry Creamed corn- that's the jam! get a tub of it and lather it on your body while you eat through it! potato salad too much mayo! yuck the BBQ sauce was good - i prefer bold spicy and not too much of that vinegar taste To me a good BBQ joint is one that has the best of all things- so far its usually the people in Texas has honed in on making a scrumptious brisket cut wherever you go. I wasn't disappointed and wasn't ecstatic about the place it was good and I probably would come back here again,

Ok... where the hell have you people been eating barbque all your lives? This was awful! I got the "moist" brisket that was as dry as can be. The serving size was not so big, either. Brisket is a cheap meat and these folks act like it's made of gold. The only thing I liked there was the banana pudding and the creamed corn (another cheap dish they act like is made from gold). I just was not impressed and will never be back.

Sure, if you're up for driving an hour outside of Austin or getting up to have "lunch" at 8am on a Saturday before they run out, I'm sure you can find better BBQ not too far away. But if you just want a quality BBQ meal at a decent price, you really can't go wrong with Rudy's. I've had most of what they offer at some point and I have not been disappointed. I typically get a couple of St. Louis Ribs along with another meat (often lean brisket, jalapeno sausage, or turkey breast) and whatever side sounds good (BEANS!!!) and just sit back and enjoy my food. I'm not a fan of fatty, saucy ribs and the St. Louis version here is a dry rub that slow cooks out most of the fat and leaves you with a perfectly seasoned, tender, fall-off-the-bone, awesome rib! It's hard for me to order them anywhere else...I always end up disappointed and wishing I'd just gone to Rudy's instead. The sides are all tasty. The beans are full of meaty chunks of brisket and are just awesome! The creamed corn is unlike most of what you'll think of as creamed corn (as in...it's actually GOOD!) and the potatoes are tasty (though they often are a bit too buttery). After moving to RR, we decided we should try the location here of another famous and oft praised BBQ establishment. Again, midway through a meal that cost twice the price, my wife and I were both wishing we had just gone back to Rudy's instead. Thanks Rudy's, for producing a convenient, delicious BBQ that is our usual fall back when you just have that craving for it!

okay heres the real deal on rubys...food is good...its pricey too there was a line which I hear is normal here...so I took the opportunity to take it all in...the smell, the menu, the people and the employees...ready to order up dinner to go. i wish i could say i observed and experienced good there as the food was... the man that took my order was rude...and offered sarcasm that I didn't see on the menu, and what I think was worse was the man in the manager role , ...he offered no respect to the customers in line...yuck! its a shamed because I did observe a young lady working there that was full of positive, pleasant energy with every face that fronted her(and it was packed) ...she is a welcomed delight to the service world....i want to say theres hope to return because of her...and a few nice people i had conversations with during the wait.. but as i left i thought to myself i will be on yelp after this, ...and i dont wish to feel so unwelcomed nor did the elderly gentleman next to me... so the food is great but it can be only as good as the person behind the counter too

Rudy's should be high on your list for BB-Q (IH-35 in Round Rock). Very consistent preparation, friendly service, lines can be long, but you can grab an old-fashioned sugar-sweetened beverage while waiting in line. Links were a huge hit on poker night! Rudy's is fast, consistent and good!

Rudy's is always a great experience for me, from friendly service to delicious food, from a tidy dining area to a clean restroom. Its a great place if you're traveling down 35 and need to make a stop. Its great if you're getting lunch in a hurry or staying for dinner with your family. I love the pick-up counter in the convenience store area where you can grab a ready made breakfast taco in the morning or a chopped beef sandwich for lunch. I love to go in the mornings and get breakfast tacos. My favorite is sausage and egg, but its the link sausage that they serve with the other BBQ meats. Mmmm!!! Recently I have found that the egg, bacon, and potato is also delicious. Always with a nice cup of iced tea! Any time that the family goes here for a lunch or dinner, we have so much trouble narrowing it down that we always end up with two meals' worth of food. Haven't met a food here we don't like although I'm partial to brisket, chicken, and pinto beans. And the loaves of bread...don't get me started. The people here are the best! They are so incredibly friendly and always greet people with a welcoming hello as we walk in the door. Here's a tip for you, if this is your first visit to Rudy's, let them know and you're in for a treat! Mustn't forget the catering! We have ordered catered meals a couple of times and are always impressed. They cover EVERYTHING!! I mean down to the sweetener packets, pickles, and onions. They include cups and ice for the drinks. They include tablecloths and utensils for serving and eating. Everything is well wrapped and packed so that transport is not an issue. When you go to pick up your order, there is a special parking spot and you don't even need to go in. And the price of it all is so worth it. It is a better deal per person than you can find anywhere and in some cases, its an even better deal than doing it all yourself. I just can't say enough good things about this place!

Color me pleasantly surprised! Have not eaten at Rudy's in years... I'd long written it off as the chain-owned, quick-service bbq joint that it is, until we happened by for a quick bite when errands found us in the neighborhood. The moist brisket most certainly hit the spot. No, it's not ready to enter the pantheon of central Texas brisket fame, but on this visit, at least, it was well above average - certainly better than the brisket on a recent run to The Salt Lick (Driftwood location), at least as good as the last brisket I smoked myself, and by all means a cut above reasonable expectations for chain-owned bbq. No, I'm not going to start driving up to Round Rock just to go to this Rudy's location. And since moist (fatty) brisket is an "occasional indulgence" sort of thing for anyone who values their arteries, I'm more apt to eat it at one of the legendary joints. Neither of those things can deny the pleasant surprise Rudy's delivered this evening, though. Here, here!

The sign on the store proudly says "The worst BBQ in Texas" but that is a flat out lie! Rudy's serves up the BEST BBQ in Texas, bar none! Rudy's special BBQ Sauce is a bit spicy and is delicious right out of the bottle. Rudy's Beef and Turkey rubs are excellent as well. Well, now I've gone and made myself hungry just talkin' about Rudy's BBQ, so I'm gonna sign off and go get me some.

Yelp needs more granularity in the ratings. I'd love to give a 4.9. I don't want to ding them with a 4.0, so they get 5 on here. I really like to save the 5's for the absolute top "I could die a happy man right now after eating this brisket" experiences that are often achieved at places like John Mueller's and Franklin's. Bottom line is that Rudy's is a fantastic barbecue machine. Great barbecue with absolute consistency, at least in the Austin area stores. I frequent the Round Rock store most, but have eaten at all of the stores in the Austin area. I won't make the mistake of stopping at the Rudy's in Waco again, though. Ok, now to the details. Breakfast tacos - I like the chopped bbq & potato. Divine, yummy spicy breakfast that I try and get at least once a week (or so I admit to my wife). Might be more often, but I'll trust Jerry to keep his mouth shut when I bring the family in. Brisket - It's all good, whether you like lean or moist. They have this down to a science. The classic joints where barbecue is an art form can hit 11 on my 10 point scale, but like any art it varies and sometimes you get an off day. Rudy's is a 9.5/10 every day of the year, regardless of what time of day you order your brisket. Nice peppery crust. Great stuff. Order the extra moist, outside cut (crusty) and you'll be very happy. Sausage - honestly, I don't like their sausage. I prefer a coarser grind. I really wish they'd change this. It's not bad, flavor is fine, just not to my taste. Other meats - everything I've had has been good--ribs, turkey, chicken. I don't order these much though so I can't go into detail. Sauce - sauce is great but I'd prefer if it were a bit less spicy so my wife and kids would enjoy it more. Sides - I'm not a sides guy at barbecue joints, but I sometimes get the potato salad here. It's good, sometimes a bit too much pickle for my taste, but good. I don't eat beans very often so I've never tried them here. The new potatoes are just a weird option in my opinion. The fried potatoes they have at breakfast are fantastic little nuggets of awesome and I wish Rudy's would serve these all day long. People - the people are fantastic. I don't know what the management's secret is, but they must have a secret formula to make people smile and be enthusiastic and helpful. You see this as well at their sister restaurants, Mighty Fine. Overall, Austin is a better place for the existence of Rudy's Country Store & BBQ.

Took some co-workers here for dinner one night cause I wanted them to experience what I consider the best BBQ Austin. There are now Rudy's all over the place, including some franchised restaurants in Houston. We ordered 1lb of "wet"brisket, 1 lb of ribs, 1/2 lb of sausage and two side - potato salad and cream corn. Everything was great except for the cream corn which was too thick and bland. That said, the 3 of us pretty much ate everything we order before heading over to Lake Travis to see the sunset.

This is the kind of place that is consistent enough to be your fall-back BBQ place. Since moving to central Texas I have been a big fan of Rudy's. All of their meats are delicious, generally moist, and the service is friendly and fast. They aren't super hyped like all of the Lockhart restaurants or Saltlick but they deliver a great meal time in and out. Simply put if you are craving barbeque and don't want to spend a ton of money but want good quality then Rudy's is the place for you. The chopped beef makes a great sandwich and the brisket, turkey, and pork loin will leave you satisfied.

There's some pretty stiff competition in this part of Texas for BBQ. You have to be top notch to impress me. That being said, I went to Rudy's this afternoon to partake in some Brisket. Apparently, I should have read the reviews ahead of time. They embarrass the life out out you if you happen to be visiting for the first time. And everyone in line stops and stares at the "rookie". So, if you aren't keen on that sort if thing, just lie and say you've been here lots of times ;-) I gotta say that the guy that took my order was very nice and helpful. He gave me samples of the meats and a taste of the creamed corn. And he pointed out exactly where the drinks and condiments were located. Onto the food! Well, I just wasn't that impressed. I've been spoiled by other local BBQ places. My expectations are far too high at this point. I think that if this was the first place in TX that I had BBQ, I'd be quite happy with what I got. But since that isn't the case, it was just OK. I got the lean brisket, which was pretty moist. But I wasn't that fond of the rub on there. It was too peppery for my taste. And the cream corn! The guy told me this was their "signature side", so of course I had to get it. Don't get me wrong, it was pretty good. But.....that "other BBQ place on 620" (we won't mention any names) makes creamed corn that is out of this world! Rudy's just wasn't as good as it gets. So, I think I'll go back another time, try a different kind of meat and a different side.....and we'll have to see if Rudy can redeem himself and prove himself a top player world of Texas BBQ.

Rudy's in Round Rock embodies what true Southwest BBQ is all about. The ambiance, service, menu items, and perfect bbq'd meat encapsulates why TEXAS BBQ is world renown as the best in the world. Great family spot, very casual seating, and old western look and feel. Great price for great food and good place to go for huge groups to meet up have a good time and eat until you drop.

  • George G.

This, to me, is the "Texas Experience" people imagine from the outside looking in. Rudy's has somehow pulled off the trick of being simultaneously a local favorite that locals actually frequent, while giving room to the tourist-y side other more "traditional" Texas BBQ joints that people recommend to Austin visitors. I've been on several BBQ crawls - I've had Snows, Smitty's, L.M. and the like, and while most traditionalists that get a taste for those places sometimes turn their nose at the idea of eating here, I've gotta disagree and say, next to *maybe* Smitty's, this is the best moist brisket you can get. Too fatty for some tastes, perhaps, sure, but if you appreciate a nicely marbleized rib-eye, you appreciate a good moist brisket. As others have mentioned, there's the great ambiance the staff and building itself provides. You walk in through their gas station/store front and are immediately greeted warmly by the people behind those counters - before you've even made it to the restaurant side of things. Then you have the classic automated hand-washer, popular with kids and adults alike, complete with the badge of honor sticker announcing to the world that you have Clean Hands. You have your classic "trough" filled with ice-cold beer and other beverages, which almost always sparks a story about how weird it is that people can buy cold beer in gas stations in Texas like this. Winding through the line you pick out your favorite dessert, cheese if you wish, and finally make to the head of the line- where someone in a boisterous voice yells "NEXXXXT IN LINEEEE", ans most newcomer's faces get the classic "deer in a headlight" pose because things _just got real_. And then, of course, as others have mentioned - once you get to the server and tell him/her you're a rookie, things get _really real_, and the BBQ experience takes it to a whole new level. And come on, what a way to introduce people to your product.... before the person can gain their composure there's already a half a dozen samples of everything they offer sitting there before them, ready to taste test. One thing I'm not sure people call up is how transparent and honest they are, even during the serving process. They don't sell you a "plate" of food that costs X-dollars, they do it butcher style, by the pound, and to me it still means a little something extra that they put those cuts up on the scale- if it's under OR over what you ordered, they are willing to fix it on the spot, and when the cutter gets it spot on, they celebrate his accuracy with another shout-out. This is just the right way to do it, period. Then they load up that giant milk-crate with your "plates", half a loaf of bread, and whatever else, and send you on your way, and bam, what you have is a complete package of local entertainment, food, and good customer service. This is why Rudy's is almost always an automatic choice when friends come into town - it's a great into to Texas BBQ. It's a great intro to Keep Austin Weird - and for people like me who have lived here for some time, it's still a go-to spot for good BBQ. Other favorites not called out nearly enough: Their Pork Loin is KILLER. Moist, nicely peppered. And, as I've said in other reviews, there are few foods I will go straight up gluttony on - but their Creamed Corn is one of these foods. I have come extremely close to slathering it upon my person, which I know is a horrible mental image, but it is literally that good. And if you're like me and had a horrible notion of what Creamed Corn is, because you went to the store and bought a can of it and tried to cook it at home, THIS IS NOTHING LIKE THAT. They use some kind of.. crack cocaine gravy mixed with the blood of old gods to create the only food I have ever ordered by the Pint, for myself. Having said that, if you're here because of my AATX list for Atkins dieters, please completely disregard everything I said about the Creamed Corn.... once you are able to kick the addiction, it's not *too* difficult to come here and avoid the Creamed Corn as long as no one in your party orders it. Justs sayin. For Atkins, I'll typically order either a half (pound) cutters or a half moist, half a link of sausage and/or 1/4 Loin. Tell them to keep the bread, wash it down with Coke Zero or Diet Dr Pepper on tap, and flavor it all with a lil bit of Mayo (if you're into the sort of thing) and, after Induction, even a wee bit of BBQ sauce isn't horribly high on Carbs - one thing I like is their bottle has the Carb contents listed, so you can adjust accordingly or omit it completely depending on where you are with the diet. HEeeeeeyyyYY ROOKEHHHHH!!!

Certainly a Texas institution! Rudy's is nothing if not consistent. I've never had poor meat here, all are fabulous, go for the moist brisket, it's fattier but way more flavorful!! I'm not as keen most of their sides though. If I had one other complaint it would be their sauce is a touch too peppery for my taste, but hey that is Texas BBQ for you.. I prefer Salt Lick's mustard based sauce, which isn't Texas at all, but delish. Also, you want heaven in a styrofoam cup? CREAMED CORN. A-Mazzzing.

Love the moist brisket and the cream corn. They gave me 4 slices of bread. I didn't even need the the bread slices, next time when I go back I will ask for no bread slices.

Rudy's is very good for what it is: fast food barbecue. Nobody should ever confuse it with the legitimate great barbecue joints in central Texas but for quick, cheap, decent barbecue, Rudy's does the trick. The breakfast tacos are also very good, but a tad on the expensive side. My one problem with Rudy's is the size of the water cups. They're all for giving me 32oz of tea or coke but if I want to drink water, I'm apparently going to have to do it 8oz at a time. Rudy's is hardly alone in the tiny ass water cup club, but it's still annoying. One issue with this location versus others is the parking is a bit more of a pain in the ass.

I just moved here from Florida and Rudy's was my first Texas BBQ. I couldn't have chosen a better place to experience Texas BBQ. WOW! First I am a fan of ordering your dinner by the pound. They sampled everything and were very helpful. I had the baby back ribs, lean brisket, smoked sausage, cream corn, BBQ chicken and cole slaw. Ya, that's a lot but wanted to try everything. The Brisket had excellent flavor, but just a tad dry. Maybe I will try the moist next time. The ribs were the best I have ever had and I am a ribs junky. The dry rub was sooo good. I tried some sauce on one and it was much better with out. The chicken was the best I have eaten as well. You can taste the smoke flavor all through the meat and not just in the skin. The sausage was very good with tons of smoked flavor and just the right amount of spice. Juicy but not greasy at all. I have hated cream corn since I was a kid, and only ordered it because the guy helping me said he hates cream corn too but likes this one. I never in a million years thought I would like cream corn but I now love cream corn, at least at Rudy's. The corn was hot and sweet and had good texture. Not gross and soupy like I remeber it as a kid. Slaw was very good too. I love the butcher paper they give you for a plate so you can lay out the whole feast. That's how you should eat BBQ. I could do without the metal chairs though. But who cares when the foods so good.

I was in Round Rock and a local resident pointed me here on my way out of town. This made up for my disappointment in not having the time to get to downtown Austin. I got the brisket and was able to drive out of Texas feeling like I had sampled something Texan. Decadent. Additionally they seem to be following the authentic BBQ tradition of serving your food in the cheapest fashion possible -- on paper with plastic utensils. The food is tasty enough that it doesn't need to be dressed up. The next time I'm eating at some fancy place I will ask myself the question, "would this still taste good if it were brought to me on wax paper?"

They start serving BBQ at 10:30 am. I was in there right at 10:30 today after a doctor's appointment. Needed some red meat to help perk me up after fasting all night! The moist brisket was delicious and tender. Awesome brunch food. I think this is my 8th or 9th time eating here since I moved to Texas in February!

FANTASTIC. Loved it! This was my first visit to Rudy's and they really impressed me. When told it was my first time, they gave me a sample of the 3 most popular meats. We ordered, and got a ton of food for a great price. The Turkey, and Brisket were my personal favorites! The corn was amazing too. Great service and food... will definitely be back!

Consistency in service, food, and quality makes it worth the time and money to eat here when you can so they don't call out to you "HEY ROOKIE!!" I have tried many places for Central Texas BBQ, but I prefer Rudy's the best. The staff knows how to: cook the meat, smoke the meat, and cut the meat. The next time there, and you order your "cutters choice" or other brisket; take the time to look at the meat. I always am able to look at the profile and see the change in the color from the burnt outside to the gradual shades of color at the center of the meat. This is the result of a slow heat/smoke cooking style that does not cook the meat too fast, allow it to dry out, and it leaves a cooking trademark "smoke ring" on the meat profile. The sign that they know what they are doing. As for sauce, it's a choice and personal preference; I prefer Rudy's as to other local places. Not too sweet, good amount of pepper, only a few preservatives, and it compliments the meat. The sauce is not made to change the flavors, but to work WITH the flavors. As for the simple thing: cutting, they use good equipment and cut it on the bias like it should be. Doesn't matter you say? Well next time you are at another local joint and notice that you can't pull/stretch the meat with ease, or it takes longer than needed to chew it; observe the grains of the meat. Is the cut correct? Is the piece too big? Are the cuts uniform? It all matters when you want to enjoy a good meal that was prepared with attention and care. The breakfast servings are a great use of good product. The creamed corn? Ask someone who enjoys that..lol.. it is good, but I can't critique it enough since I don't eat it..lol The place is always clean, and refreshing when you go there; whether you are sitting inside or outside. All in all, Rudy's is the best BBQ I spend for the $$ I spend. It is family friendly, memorable, and nice. And don't forget, the next time you take someone there for their 1st time.. tell the cashier.. and smile when you hear "HEY ROOKIE!!" ~ and Rudy's can I please have them burnt ends? Pllleeaaassseee....

I have tried just about everything at Rudy's BBQ. It is quite delish! How they differ from other BBQ places, as far as taste, is that everything is made fresh & it isn't put under a heat-lamp to get dry (& I've had BBQ that made me run for water because it was caught in my throat) *cough* Pok-e-Jo's. The side dishes taste like homemade. I like the fact that the breakfast tacos are already made & waiting at the front of the convenience store. That way when you're rushing to work you can just run in & grab some. Then, you can also grab your own fresh salsa & other condiments. I must also admit, I love their various signs throughout the restaurant that are humorous. The downsides: there is no drive-thru. Yes, I have to admit, being a Mom I sometimes hate getting out of my car & waiting in line with a toddler in tote. The other downside is you can't call in your order for pickup (to go) unless it is for a group of 10 or more (or equivalent of 5lbs of meat).

This is one of favorite places to get BBQ. There's great food selection and I love that you can grab a Coke in a bottle there. The place has an old timer country feel that makes you think you're out in the boonies. Its always packed there so more then likely you'll be waiting in line but once you're up at the register they select your food choice in a speedy manner. The BBQ sauce is great and they also bottle it so you could pick up a bottle to take home.

Rudy's is our family favorite for any of our large get togethers. It's great to be able to pick up everything you need for the family in one spot. The customer service is great. And we often go in the mornings and they have great breakfast tacos to top it off!

Awesome pit stop when you're on the road. Also a great place for lunch. The staff is always friendly, and willing to let you taste menu items before you purchase your slab of meat. Personally, I recommend the spicy chopped beef sandwich, with a side of pickle. I also appreciate the glass bottled sodas and beers, served out of metal tubs. Just adds to the atmosphere. This place draws in all kinds of diners, so if you have time to stop and eat, enjoy the people watching.

Rudy's consistently delivers on quality and taste of food. I cannot recall a time visiting this Rudy's BBQ where we have had a bad meal. My wife and I love the moist and the jalapeno sausage (termed a "hotty" at Rudy's). She is a huge creamed corn and red potato fan. I can definitely say that every visit has had the same positive experience on our family. I was shocked to look at the nutritional information on the lean brisket versus the moist. The variance is really insignificant while the flavor is very different! I would be remiss if I didn't give my kids a nod and make sure that everyone knows that you can make a "creamed corn sandwich" that is out of this world, as well...

I remember how odd I thought it was a couple months ago when I went to Tom's Thumb for a Yelp event to see a BBQ place inside a gas station. I'm finding while here in Austin that is a lot more common than I knew! While they are both BBQ places inside gas stations that's where their similarities end. They are on opposite ends of the spectrum from each other in every way possible. Tom's Thumb is much more high scale catering to those who drive Bentley's and BMWs. Rudy's is much more your everyday man place. They each have their own charm but I think Rudy's is more welcoming to a larger demographic. The paper plates are actual paper, the meat is well prepared and the sauce is good. While it's not my favorite BBQ I've ever had I'm happy to have had the chance to experience it while I was in town.

Excellent BBQ. I moved from east Texas recently and honestly the Rudy's there was okay at best. The ones in the Austin area are MUCH better. I eat here fairly often because it's close and great food. I can speak to the brisket, the ribs, and the cream corn; all of which are amazing. Get the moist brisket, it's awesome. The staff is also top notch and always friendly and accommodating. There's great BBQ all over Austin, and this place is honestly one of the very best.

Rudy's isn't my favorite barbecue. But it's an easy go-to location for us. The people at this location are nice, the food is the same as every other Rudy's. My husband likes their food, but it's just not my thing, I guess.

Who would ever think eating and getting gas could be so good? It's like a picnic. Great food. Picnic tables, No plates, just utensils, waxed paper, napkins and drinks. Don't pass it up! It's well worth going. Fave is moist brisket.

  • James J.

I always get the extra most brisket and a few sausage links, I'm never disappointed. Rudy's is definitely a staple and sets the bar for other chains in terms of food quality, dining experience and service in my opinion. The only thing I wish they'd carry is normal cheese slices.

  • Zach S.

You should be ashamed! A Rudy's without pulled pork!! The guy thought I had never been to Rudy's before. Got the pork loin slices instead. Good but not pulled pork. The fat from the loin was wonderful but the actual meat was kind of dry and bland. The building is quite small I however do love that the BBQ sauce is on a tap. :) no sissy sauce. I have no complaint about the service and loved that the manager was greeting people and helping the line move smoothly. Over all I'm pleased but I've gotta have pulled pork at Rudy's.

I don't think it was until I was driving through Colorado Springs and came across a Rudy's like a oasis mirage in the desert that I realized how much Rudy's is a part of who I am and what I truly love. BBQ doesn't get any better. If you're reading this and you're not from round these parts, order the cutters choice brisket and jalapeno sausage. Make yourself a big sloppy sandwich drenched in their peppery delicious sauce and realize why people in Texas rarely leave. This BBQ is home.

Not impressed that you have to buy Jalepenos and not all sides are visible to customer; they ask at check out. Much prefer Waco's location. More options, better set up and you don't have to pay for silly sides like Jalepenos. If you're traveling on 35 and passing through Waco stop there not here. However, lean brisket was cut very good. St.Louis ribs were eh but my good ole standby of hot sausage hasn't failed me yet.

Food was not fresh and taste more like it was steam bake than grilled. Food tasted like it was three to four days old. Do not recommend takeouts. Need to eat there to get fresh or refund. Some places dump crap food on those who order takeouts hoping you will just eat it.

Really really REALLY good BBQ. You pay by the pound, they give you bread and you eat it. Pretty simple here. Tastes phenomonal, the bbq sauces are good and if you're anti carb you could live here.

Man, do I love BBQ. When I first moved here back in '98, my friends asked me one afternoon if I wanted to go get some BBQ for lunch. I was rather perplexed at this question because where I come from (Orange County, NY), "to BBQ" means to throw some burgers and dogs on a grill and have a party in someone's backyard or at a park... so when I responded to the question with another question "who's house are we going to grill at?", I was greeted with a rather curt tirade of profane insults with the occasional "YANKEE" thrown in for good measure. They then threw me in the van and proceeded to take me to Rudy's on 183. When I tasted real Texas BBQ for the first time, I nearly smacked my mama (who was 1800 miles away). I never forgot that first visit and the brisket tastes just as good today as it did the very first time I was exposed to it. My personal favorite is the Extra Moist, but the Cutter's Choice comes in a close second. Have you tried the turkey? If not, you should. It's awesome. How about the half chicken? Man, is it tasty. Sausage? Fantastic. Prime Rib? As we say in NY... fuggheddabowdit! And the "sause"? ...You've never tasted BBQ sauce until you've had Rudy's "sause". They joke about folks drinking it straight from the bottle, but in my case, I literally could! It's the bombdiggity! Yeah I said bombdiggity. As for the sides, the cole slaw is delightfully creamy. The potato salad is pretty decent. The beans are really good. But... the king of Rudy's sides is the cream corn. Words simply cannot describe how friggin' monstrously awesomely fantabulously great it is. You need to try it. The chocolate and the banana puddings also deserve honorable mention. One more thing... if you have never been to Rudy's before, make sure you tell them that. They love to explain the way they operate to rookies. They'll even give you free samples, so you can decide for yourself what you'd like.

After almost five years, and having passed this place probably dozens of times, I finally came here with a friend for lunch. I'll definitely be back, and I think it would be especially cool to bring guests from out of state, who will like the novelty of this place. It took some getting used to, but apparently the staff is used to that, and so ordering was quick and easy. My friend recommended the brisket so that's what I ordered and it was delicious! I do agree that there's not much "healthy" on the menu, but then it's Texas BBQ (keyword here Texas!) so I can't complain. I am sorry I've waited so long to eat here!

This is a great place with a fun atmosphere. The quality of the food is awesome. It is a great casual experience and a good place to bring kids since its noisy overall. The tables are set up really neat, like giant picnic tables. Only thing I was sad they didnt have pulled pork :( Other than that, the ribs and brisket were really good and all the sides were yummy! This is definitely a great place with quality food that I will be returning to many times. ... Ohh, and I love that your "plates" are sheets of paper!

Was visiting family for Christmas and decided to give Rudy's a try. The line was very long and the wait time was about a half hour at 6pm. The guy that took my order forgot half of it and had to run my credit card twice. I ordered 3 sides, 1 pound of moist brisket, 1 pound of ribs and 1 full rack of ribs along with 1/4 pound of turkey and 2 drinks $70 BUCKS!!!!!!!!!!! The ribs were dry and over cooked, the turkey was pretty good but the brisket was delicious. Not impressed.

On taste alone this place has the best BBQ brisket in Austin. Price - will spend around 15 a person if you get sides 10 if you only get meat. Place - Very country picnic like environment Taste - Brisket is best, pork ribs also good. If you haven't tried this place you must!!!!!

    (5)
  • Jason S.

This location is pretty good. Almost everything I've had has been really good. I personally don't care for the pork ribs but everything else is great. The moist brisket is probably the best but also worst for you. The turkey breast is really lean but yet moist and is quite tasty. I also like the fact that you order as much or as little as you care to eat. This makes portion control pretty easy. The creamed corn, beans and potato salad are all legit side. Also if you keep your cup you get $1 off your drink the next visit.

Rudy's! Rudy's! Rudy's! (In my best Eddie Murphy/Klump voice). My husband and I visited Austin this summer while searching for a new home, and of course got a hankerin' for some great BBQ, so I popped out my trusty Droid and used my Yelp! app in search - up pops Rudy's. Now I'm a little skeptical because we drove past this restaurant a bunch of time because we didn't need gas. Yes, I said it, gas... Rudy's is inside of a gas station! Like the saying goes, "Never judge a book by it's cover!" The same goes for a restaurant. When we walked in the smell engulfed our olfactory senses and I couldn't wait. Looking a little country at best, we proceeded to the back where the restaurant is and studied the menu. We were greeted by an enthusiastic worker ready to take our order. So much to choose from, he offered a tasting of the menu. Brisket (three types), turkey, jalapeño sausage, beans and creamed corn. It was all so good, but stop the presses and OMG... that doggone creamed corn is to die for! With a hand full of bread in our milk crate full food in hand, we sat down at the family-style picnic tables and feasted on the best BBQ we had in a very looong time! We chose the moist brisket, a few slices of turkey and the creamed corn... never uttering a word because we were too busy stuffing our faces! Aside from the great food you have the choice of nostalgic sodas, wines and beer, not to mention some pretty great sweet tea! I couldn't wait to move here to get back to Rudy's! Next up, baby back ribs, beans and chicken. Oh Rudy, you and I will forever be!!! Great food, great service, and I can grab some gas for my car while I'm there, taboot!

Everybody who knows me will know that if there's one type of food I cannot live without it's BBQ and there is only one word to describe the food here - WOW. When you pull up to the place, usually in a truck stop or gas station, you don't really expect much from the place other than something to fill you up. You half expect to see Larry the Cable Guy or Jeff Foxworthy but the food here is the reason why everyone comes from far and wide for this BBQ. Inside the decor is typical truck stop and canteen - nothing special, but the food is so good if this place was a shack under a freeway nobody would even bat an eyelid. Their moist brisket is exactly that; it melt's in your mouth. Their creamed corn is so good it's as addictive as crack! I didn't really like creamed corn before I tried theirs and now I find myself craving it and have seriously considered asking friends and family to Fed-Ex me some when I'm overseas. Their ironic slogan 'Worst Bar-B-Q In Texas' couldn't be further from the truth and pretty much sums up their relaxed take on their great food. You haven't lived until you try this place for yourself. Unleash your inner Redneck and get yourself down to Rudy's for some REAL BAR-B-Q!

Rudy's is what I envision when I think of Texas barbecue joint. It is fun, full of character, and big on portions. I love the ordering system and picnic table seating; it's a no-frills, good-eats type place. I had chicken (lathered in their delicious barbecue sauce, of course) with a side of creamed corn and red potatoes. My meal was tasty and I had plenty of leftovers. Being a Minnesotan, I am not the best judge of authentic Texan barbecue, but Rudy's certainly earned a thumbs up in my book.

I love there breakfast tacos. The eggs are cooked just perfect not runny or dried out. The cost is 1.99 and you have plenty of choices. And the tacos have a good amount of eggs inside. Two will fill me up. The sausage and egg taco is the smoke sausage. You can also get BBQ chopped beef tacos. The tacos are ready to go no wait and they are still hot. I have eaten the BBQ in the restaurant also. It is very tasty. Good smoke flavor. You get your food on paper and plan bread to eat with the BBQ. Sit at big picnic tables. Plenty of good sides to pick from.

Love this place! Would come back again and again! Love it when its busy and the line moves and not a stand still for a long time. This place is packed almost all the time I go. I love their BBQ sauce! Love how friendly the staff are that works there. Restroom needs to be updated and needs to be cleaned more properly. Pricing is not too bad for a BBQ place.

For gas station BBQ this place is good for a decent meal. I wouldn't come here for the meat however their meat is better than most. They have a wonderful atmosphere and great sides. This is a wonderful stop if you are just looking for a casual lunch. I wouldn't recommend going here if you have food allergies. Most of the time the staff is not knowledgeable enough to answer your questions at any of their locations.

Rudy's continues to be my go-to BBQ place. Brisket is very good, as is the chicken and the spicy chopped beef. The ribs are pretty good, as is the pork loin and the prime rib (not my thing, though). The sides are all really good, too. Pinto beans have a nice spice to them, creamed corn, cole slaw, and potato salad are all nice and creamy and flavorful. Boiled red potatoes are a nice change of pace, and the desserts are hard to pass up. I don't like the coffee at breakfast. I don't like the sausage link, either. The consistency of the sausage is too finely milled and not typical of a more course grind we tend to find here in Central Texas BBQ houses. Staff is very friendly, restaurant is very clean, and we enjoy eating here.

Rudy's does great bbq, in a fun "backyard" environment. The staff is usually friendly and helpful. I like almost everything about Rudy's. Only suggestion I would make would be to offer a "sweet sauce" for those who prefer it.

I've been a Rudy's fan for about 10 years now. But only after the last couple of trips home did I realize they also do breakfast tacos. Now, breakfast tacos are good on their own, but add smoked meat, and you'll find a whole new level of awesome. Breakfast ends at 10:30, so get there early!

Pretty much just like any other Rudy's location except this one is the closest to my house. Its not too bad of a barbecue joint. It can get pretty busy which makes finding a parking space/pulling in and out of the parking lot a hassle. I enjoy the sausage here. I have tried a few of the different rib choices, but none are to my liking. The potato salad with pickles is an acquired taste. The creamed corn is pretty tasty. There sauce is texas style tomato based heavy on the black pepper. There meat can vary in how much rub is applied sometimes overwhelming it with black pepper. The staff is super friendly and they seem to want to take care of you and get you through the line fast. If I take my dogs along for the ride I make sure to give them some yum yum bites.

The employees do not excel at cutting BBQ, but their positive attitude makes up for that. All that aside, Rudy's is always dependable and delicious. The location was nice and clean, and there was ample parking. I have not been to Rudy's in some time and the last couple of time I visited I went for breakfast. This trip I was with people who were not native Texans, and wanted BBQ. We ordered a variety of menu items including side items. All were good, and no one had any negative comments. I thought the sausage was a tad bit greasy, but other than that everything was fine. The chicken was good with a nice smoky edge, and the (both) rids decent. The side was side, in other words good but nothing to write home about. The fact that this is a franchise and they maintain a mediocre level of food is acceptable. The only thing is a native Texan I know where to find better. Try any small town in central Texas, from Lulling, Lockhart, Elgin, and Giddings and you will discover BBQ that in superior and at a better price. In fact Salt Lick is preferable to be than Rudy's. The only negative was that in the dining area there were lots of flies. I mean a lot we had to use the paper our food was served in to keep them from landing on it. We gave up and tossed the drinks, due to our inability to protect them from the flies. So id good is want you want in BBQ Rudy's is perfect, but if great is your preference keep driving.

This place makes me dislike all other gas stations. Shouldn't they all have great BBQ? Great atmosphere and format. I love the simplicity of the menu and the flexibility of ordering by weight. They have lots to choose from including several brisket options, chicken, turkey, a few sausage options, and several pork options including ribs. I had the moist brisket and it was fantastic. It had a great smokey flavor and a wonderful texture. The BBQ sauce, potato salad and creamed corn were all good and supported the meat well. You have to ignore calories and fat content while at Rudy's but they have everything else covered.

In round rock on a biz trip; decided to try this place. I am glad I did. When they discovered it was my first time, they allowed me to sample the meats and gave me the entire overview of the place and menu. Brisket and sausage were great! Great place.

I love Rudy's BBQ. Their brisket is always delicious and moist with great seasoning. Ribs fall off the bone. Sausage is juicy. The sides are hot and compliment the BBQ wonderful. And the sauce is amazingly consistent. The prices are reasonable. The sweet tea is perfectly sweetened. You can get sides in a variety of sizes to feed just yourself, or your whole family. Same with the meat. It's convientent that it's located connected to a gas station and right off the access road so it's a quick on and off if you're not from the town and just driving through.

It's a must stop for all out-of-towners, period. living in austin, it's hard to eat at rudy's everyday but i appreciate some moist brisket each time our friends come for a visit from california. it never gets old.... love the atmosphere, the staff and most importantly their food.

This brisket is amazing! Once you make your way up to the counter, they'll ask you is if this is your first time. If so, be prepared to try some samples of the different briskets! I ordered the extra moist beef brisket , St. Louis pork ribs, and a side of cream corn. Oh my, the extra moist brisket is super tender, full of flavor and perfectly marbled. The regular or even the lean brisket might be an option but I'd seriously consider the extra moist for its flavor. The ribs were good. Anywhere else, I'd say these ribs would be exceptional, but nothing compares to the brisket. Be sure to try Rudy's BBQ sauce. The food stands well alone, but the sauce just adds that extra kick! I came back for a second visit (in two days!) to try the sausage and grub on a 1/2 pound of the extra moist brisket. I ordered a full link, which is four big slices. I would've been fine with a half, but wow, It was really good too. Lots of flavor. It went well with Rudy's BBQ sauce. Rudy's is attached to a gas station and adjacent to a car wash. But hey, this is Texas, so don't let that deter you from eating here. The staff is super friendly and there's beer here! I can't recommend this place enough. Definitely eat here if you love BBQ!

I am new to BBQ, and I enjoyed the food and experience at Rudy's. We came here for Sunday lunch and the line was long and discouraging. However, it moved pretty fast and we were told to inform our server that we were first-timers. This earned us a shout out from the other servers and a few samples. The food was tasty and not greasy, the bbq sauce was also yummy. It all had the right amount of spiciness/kick to it. We would be back here, but hope there are times that are less busy than others.

Great place! Super friendly and informative staff. They give new comers a big welcome and have them sample different types of meats and some of their top choice side dishes. My husband and I love their cream of corn! Taste like corn pudding. We also enjoyed their extra moist brisket! I also enjoyed their potato salad, and their sauce is the best sauce I have ever tasted. This was our first time visiting Rudy's since we are new to the area. We New Yorkers are a true fan of Rudy's.

LOVE THIS PLACE! I've eaten at Rudy's a few years back and recently brought some friends while we were in town visiting. I was completely satisfied with everything. The store and restaurant are clean, staff is above and beyond friendly, and the food is delicious. I bought a half lb of meat, with plans to take part of it home for my daughter. After packing up the rest, and hitting the bathroom for the rest of the trip home, we had a problem! My bag got wet and the bottom fell out and the food busted everywhere! The staff was SO NICE! They ran to immediately clean up and even ran and got me another bag and packed it with the same stuff that I had just lost in the spill! I was so impressed! If you are in the area, you MUSY stop and eat here!

Why have I never reviewed Rudys before this? I don't know exactly. Its so much a part of our everyday life, maybe it just doesn't seem like a business, more like an extension of home? I'm pretty sure that shines a rather too revealing light on how much we eat out, particularly barbecue-type out, but its too late to take it back now. I'll blame it on B. who eats at this Rudy's SO often he has only to approach the counter and the folks behind it are filling out his order before he even opens his mouth. B LOVES Rudy's. He literally can't get enough of the turkey, the brisket, the baby back ribs, the cream corn and even the spicy chop. Of course the breakfast tacos go without saying (just the best breakfast tacos in the whole of Texas!). Its not very often that I am in the mood for barbecue and its fixins'. Most of the time I go along to keep B company and because I love the wood-smokey smell of Rudy's eating area (family style seating both indoors and out), it reminds me of camping in the pine woods. When I do decide to eat there I like the spicy chop, the potato salad, the ice tea, and the nummy pudding with an oreo on top. The folks at Rudys are unfailingly friendly and FAST (the best part for impatient me). I often see the owner sitting in the restaurant on Saturdays or Sundays. Its obvious he cares about how things are going and stays involved, so I trust Rudy's. I take all of my out of town guests there when they want barbecue (forget the over-hyped touristy places!) and so far none of them have ever been anything less than delighted. Some of my friends have even talked about making time to see B and I the next time they are in town to visit Rudy's!

Please not that Rudy's is nOT a '5 start restaurant" but for what it is and intends to be it definitely deserves the StARS. Rudy's is GREAT BARBECUE. The prices are very reasonable because it is a no frills place. It is always clean and well staffed. The food varies only a little from visit to visit from very, very good to truly excellent. This not fine dining, but stand in a quick line to order meats (and sides) by the pound pore your own soda or tea drinks (free refills) to either sit on their indoor picnic tables or take it home. My wife and I both love Rudy's. We never go to expensive places for barbecue since if we want better SHE has to make it for us at home. Enjoy!

Real Texans don't eat at this place. Great place for out of towers or people from CA that have moved to Austin (wish you would leave now). BBQ is okay at best. If you want real BBQ go to Lockhart.

Have to back off a star, at least for this location. Lately the 1/2 chicken has been extremely dry. Seems as though they make way too many ahead of time and they are drying out. Also, have noticed that the beans are a bit inconsistent, almost like someone is not following the recipe. Sometimes they're on the money with plenty of spice and brisket mixed in and other times almost bland, as they were today. I think the manager needs to pay more attention to quality control.

I've just moved to texas and I've had the best BBQ in my life here. Most California joints should be embarrassed to call their food BBQ. RUDY'S is great, okay prices great food. Friendly staff and cool atmosphere. I've only been to 2 locations this one here and one in El Paso. I'd give the one in El Paso 4 stars because only gave me 4 pieces and a heal of bread between 1 lb of meat. Come on..

Every time I go in this Rudys and try to order, the sales staff interrupts me. I have been to Rudy's many times and they always ask if you have been there before first. This is fine but at this Rudy's the employees shout over me when I try to talk to them which is very rude. I get that you need to get info from me but please let me finish talking rather than shouting questions at me in order to get an answer. The worst ones are the cashiers with all the star on their hats. If I wanted to get shouted at and belittled by squeaky cashiers my meal better be free

Sure you feel weird because it's a gas station. But once you get on line and see what is going on you start to feel like this is something special. I ordered some extra lean brisket and man was it good. They must cook that thing for days. The red coloring from the smoke penetrating deeply into each slice, full of flavor, moist, and perfectly cooked. I think Rudy's may be a reason for me to want to come back to RR.

*after reading the owners comment, i upped the stars to reflect how i feel about Rudy's food. You should still read my funny review, tho. ok, so maybe i'm lashing out... We all love the moist brisket and creamed corn. This review is about service. So, let me start by saying i have a tiny stomach. Literally. surgically tiny. i KNOW how much i can eat. i am attracted to places where i can buy food in the actual quantities i can eat. ....and usually i still have leftovers. That's ok. i eat leftovers. I have *ALWAYS been able to order exactly what i want at Rudy's and never once did they bat an eye when i asked for 3 ribs. Yes. 3 ribs. i'm not trying to be all Who's Gonna Get You Sucker, (Chris Rock: how much for one rib?! ... can you break a hundred $ bill?), i just really don't want to pay for food i know i can't eat. (did i just show my age with that reference? oh well...) Truth is, i can probably eat One rib, a small mound of brisket and 4 spoonfuls of creamed corn in a sitting. I'm Already over-ordering. Tonight, after watching a No Reservations about Kansas City and it's BBQ i wanted BBQ, naturally. Problem is, i twisted my ankle and knee yesterday! ( ugh. don't ask.) and i'm stranded on the couch. It's all good, tho! BF to the rescue! *he really is awesome.* He says he will go get me some Rudy's and bring it back to camp couch. Cool. Gave him my order. 1/4 lb of moist brisket, 3 ribs and small corn. He comes home. He's got brisket! He's got Ribs! He's got the creamed corn! SCORE. Then he tells me: the guy wouldn't let me order 3 ribs. He told me i had to get a half rack. Um. what?! last time i checked. you can order whatever you want and they weight it and you pay for it. The End. If i am going to be forced to make a minimum order of ribs, i need to be advised beforehand. The BF just wanted to make me happy and bring me ribs, so he said ok. But this reallllly made ME mad. I have NEVER been told that when i went to Rudy's. NEVER. Was it because it was a guy and not a girl placing the order. Was it a slow day and they needed to sell more meat? Was the counter guy just a d*ck. I dunno. But i don't appreciate it. i have now been forced to pay for food that i am going to throw away. Not cool. Fail Rudy's counter guy. Fail.

I recently ordered quite a bit of brisket for a Mother's Day lunch. I was able to order over the phone & a day in advance. The order was ready when I got there 15 minutes early! The service was very friendly. We definitely will use this store again!

I'm a big fan of Rudy's. It's inexpensive and oh so good. No frills about this place - they don't even give you plates. Just eat off the butcher paper on the wooden benches. They are quick and tasty and the service is always great. I get the half pound of spicy chopped beef and they throw in a half dozen slices of bread, which means you've got a filling meal for lot a lot of change. I've also been here for breakfast tacos, which are simple but good. The hand-washing station is priceless, however. I would come in to use that, even if I weren't eating.

I was a bit thrown off by the BBQ / gas station model but it works and works well. Was able to dip in and dip out lickity split. Not the best like Franklin's but also very little wait during lunch. I'm happy that i found this place, but my pants and clothing will be sad haha

I'd been to one of the San Antonio Locations while on a trip to TX last year, so when someone suggested this place for dinner on a recent trip to Round Rock I jumped at the opportunity. I can't compare Rudy's to other BBQ joints because I honestly always go to Rudy's if given the chance. Everyone seems to swear by their brisket, but I've honestly tried everything else and it's equally as impressive. I stuck with the brisket on this most recent trip. I started with some lean (typical for a northerner;-) After I plowed back a 1/2 pound of that, I returned for some moist, which although a little fattier is much more tastier. I don't eat most of their sides so I can't comment on those, I did get some of the boiled potatoes and they were very good. Most people rave about the creamed corn. Slap some brisket, potatoes and a heavy dosage of their "sause" on some white bread and there is not much better than this. I could eat this nightly and never get tired of it (or have a heart attack, whichever comes first) I did pick up a bottle of sause to take home as my last bottle was running kinda low.

Their tacos are awesome, great way to start the morning. We also typically get their St. Louis ribs, which are only second to salt lick in driftwood.

The first place I are when we moved here. They have amazing customer service and take the time to introduce all first timers with a break down of all of their products and a sample of everything. Their sauce is amazing and their potato salad is just like my mom used to make :) also their sides are addicting!! A definite must for someone who enjoys good barbecue and a fun atmosphere. They serve family style and on "fine wax paper china" so keep an open mind and enjoy!

Ordered brisket, chicken and cream corn for 55 to be delivered to my house last weekend for a rehearsal dinner (they deliver orders over $600). The 20lbs of brisket went remarkably fast - it was that good. I had scheduled the food to be delivered at 5:30pm for the dinner at 6pm, and the driver showed up at 5:00pm thinking the dinner was 5:30pm to set up. Next time I will be clearer on time as I feel maybe this was my fault in not making sure they knew the dinner was at 6pm. They brought tea, bread, sauce, plates/silverware, cups, pickles, onions etc... Everyone LOVED, LOVED the food. Ordering was crazy simple the night before the event and I wish I had done this in the past when I have large gatherings at my house. Seriously couldn't have been easier. Thank you Rudy's!!

Fantastic. I will knock a star on the jalapeño sausage because it's too processed looking and feeling for me. It lacks that homemade *SNAP* and grease that a genuine sausage will give off. Not enough smokiness for me either. It's almost an afterthought on the menu. Aside from that the sauce and moist brisket is delicious! Who knew, in a GAS station. It's extremely flavorful and has a nice fat but not disgusting, just the right amount. They have some great looking guys behind the counter who offered me up a full sampling of meats. Don't lie if it's your first trip! The turkey was fantastic, I am thinking of coming back for Thanksgiving. The corn was perfect as well. Good stuff Round Rock, good stuff. Oh! And the manager was there at the end of the line and he was a sweet as could be. I wanted to grab a blanket on that chilly day and crawl into a corner and enjoy their grub. He reminded me of the family I'm missing back home. Too much? Yea? The manager was a doll. /thought.

I've eaten BBQ all over the country, and I continue to come back to Rudy's. Extra moist-outside cut is the best thing to order, literally melts in your mouth. Extremely consistent, I eat there multiple times a week and usually at different locations in ATX. Don't bother going to Lockhart when there are Rudy's nearby. Employees are extremely nice. Almost too nice... Being from the north originally it made me sick at first, but I have come around to enjoy it. Whenever someone visits me in Texas I bring them here first.

I've eaten here numerous times for both BBQ and breakfast tacos. Some locations offer a jalapeño sausage and I highly recommend that if you like a little kick to your mouth! Their staff is always fast, friendly, and helpful. Their food is always fast, delicious, and a great price! Always make sure to stop here when I see them.

Several years back, I brought my older brother and his wife and kids (who were visiting from Phx, AZ) to this location a few years back, and they frighteningly proclaimed "WHAT?!! You are taking us to eat BBQ....IN A GAS STATION......EEEEWWWWWWW!" Their comment set me aback because I never thought of this as being unusual, but it is odd how we 'locals' have become accustomed to Rudy's business model. That said, I find their restaurants to be consistently clean, efficient, fun, and to provide great service. If we really stopped to think about it, I can see why the 'out-of-staters' may find Rudy's to be one strange place to eat. One thing I DO find strange about Rudy's is how consistent they are. I won't proclaim them to be the BEST of anything in CenTex, but you can usually count on them to be solid. Because I know this annoys Ashley S., I will proclaim they have 5-Star 'MOIST' brisket and even jalepeno-sausage. On this day, at this time, both were wonderful - and I have never been disappointed with this location (except maybe for all the greenbacks you have to shell out, hence, the fallen star). Top it off your BBQ with a sweet tea, and then you REALLY have something! Every year at Christmas, I know I can send my brother a bottle of Rudy's BBQ 'Sause' - it is a winner every time.

Stopped in to Rudy's for my first Texas BBQ experience. I was not disappointed. Being a first timer, they explained the order process and let me sample the goods. Very friendly service. The highlights were the brisket (I ordered the regular as opposed to their other two choices, lean or moist. The Turkey Breast is also fantastic. Liked their BBQ sauce enough to purchase a big bottle to take home. The ribs were a little dry and a bit of a disappointment and the sides (potato salad, spicy beans, and cream corn) were solid but nothing special. Will definitely stop by next visit.

When I think of true Texan style gas station Bar-B-Q, I think of Rudy's and the wonderful food they offer. And when I say its gas station BBQ, I mean it- Rudy's is attached to a Shell gas station. If you happen to be in the Austin area- you have to visit Rudy's and see what they have to offer. Walking in, you'll see long rows of tables and chairs and the entire place decked out as a true country store. Their famous BBQ sauce is displayed everywhere, including pictures of celebrities (local and nationally know) and soldiers showing their love to the coveted sauce. While waiting in line to place your order, you'll be able to pick out a variety of drinks- including bottled soft drinks, juices, and beer. You'll also have the option to grab slaw, potato salad, pudding, and the cream corn. I don't like cream corn but if I can offer a piece of advice: GET THE CREAM CORN. Rudy's offers a variety of different Bar-B-Q'd meats including: ribs, brisket (three kinds), links, and turkey. The ribs are excellent, and the moist brisket is to die for. If you enjoy a little heat in your meat- links are an excellent choice! So- if you happen to be in the Austin area and looking for some good Texas BBQ- choose Rudy's, your tastebuds will thank you. Your waist line on the other hand....

The brisket is amazing here. I will confess something: before I moved to Texas from California I had never had brisket before. I know *ghasp!* The first time I had it I wasn't a fan, it was too fatty for my taste. When I came to Rudys for the first time they gave me a sample of a few things, the lean brisket being one and I fell in LOVE. I don't like super fatty meats so this is great and it still has great flavor. The new potatoes are buttery and the cream corn is amazing. This is just good food and I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. My kid loves to get a pudding for dessert, too. Oh and by the way customer service is great. It can get crowded and sometimes they want to skimp on the free bread but I have never been disappointed with the food.

The lean brisket is perfectly peppery and smoky-delicious. The jalapeño sausage is my cracktastic guilty pleasure. Cole slaw, with a touch of sweetness, is just right alongside an order of spicy beans. I've been a customer for years, and the service has always been warm and super-friendly. Rudy's serves up real Texas hospitality and amazing barbecue.

We love you brisket, oh yes we do We love you brisket, oh yes we do We love you brisket, oh yes we doooooooooooooo Brisket we love you, and sausage toooooooooooo Stopped by Rudy's in RR today; just one of many trips here to eat at Rudy's. Where else can I get breakfast tacos in the morning, brisket, sausage, ribs, turkey and/or chicken for lunch or dinner and then fill up my car with gas. As we all know you enter get in line, pick up a beer or bottle drink, grab sides like slaw, potato salad, banana pudding and order BBQ at the counter. I admit on some of my previous lunches here the BBQ is over cooked or so-so in taste. Actually, the BBQ was not very good at all. But today it was at its best. I ordered lb of moist brisket, full sausage link, grabbed a banana pudden' and ordered steamed new potatoes, and a large sprite. Bread included. Total cost $14.10 with tax. I picked up a load of mayo, mustard and raw onion and settled in at one of the communal picnic tables. I didn't realize how big a full link was, I should have ordered a 1/2 link of sausage. I could not eat it all. The brisket today was almost a melt in your mouth kinda good, the sausage was excellent as well. This meal increased my like of Rudy's. Now instead of waiting a year to go back I may hit this place 4 or 5 times a year. So if you are one of the few that have not tried a Rudy's, try it see if it meets your requirements. Would I go back? Now I will. (Note: I know pudden' should be pudding and kinda should be kind of but say it in a southern accent and you will know what I mean by pudden' and kinda!)

I stopped in at 9pm on a Sunday night to pick up some extra moist brisket for a late night dinner. As they close at 9:30pm, I guess I should have expected that any end-of-the-day BBQ wasn't going to be the best. The brisket looked very dry, and I made a point of telling the person at the cash register that it didn't look like extra moist brisket. She offered to have the meat dipped in cow fat. What I really wanted was... extra moist brisket, but was so hungry that I just told her I'd take the brisket as is. The idea of the brisket soaked in fat did not sound appetizing. When I got home, sure enough, the brisket was dry. The last couple of times I've been to this Rudy's (Round Rock), I've been disappointed that the ribs and brisket have been dry. I don't know whether this is unique to the tastes of the area (the 35 corridor) or this location. I am now looking for Round Rock BBQ alternatives!

Just to clue you folks in...moist is and always will be a dirty word. So I don't know why you would choose to order "moist" brisket. Gross! Go with the lean brisket, forever and always. Now, as much as I wish I were into ribs and all that stuff I'm just not. I love the turkey breast, I'm a white meat lover and their famous sauce is and always will be my favorite. But I have had everything on the menu, I repeat EVERYTHING. The sausage is my least favorite...its just too rubbery for my liking. Maybe thats how its supposed to be. But I just can't see flaccid sausage being a must have. But the sides are what really get me. Just give me my own pint of potato salad and I'm good to go. A new discovery for me are the new potatoes. Soaked in buttery goodness! On our most recent visit the line was insanely long, they even had some monitor working the line to make sure everything ran smoothly. We ordered almost everything off the menu and came out to be over $60, no drinks. and no charge for a whole unwanted loaf of white bread. This was our Easter dinner. The guy at the register says : "Yall having a lot of family coming over?" My dad: ***Booming laughter My mom: No one is coming over....we just love the food and want leftovers *Well said Mama S! I like that they have the little onion/pickle bar for to go-ers. And their amazing sauce in an accessible dispenser. For a chain originating just north of San Antonio, I think its pretty consistently awesome. That or I'm just easy to please.

Me likee! I am not a huge BBQ fan, but every once in a while the craving hits me. This place is a favorite of my wife, and I like it too. My five year old loves coming here, and it is great for kids. She can make as much noise as she wants, and nobody bats an eye. The place is spotlessly clean, the employees are always cheerful, and the food is pretty good. Even when the place is crowded, the serving line moves along pretty quickly, and there is ample seating. We have used their group meal service a couple times for our kid's birthday parties. The prices are reasonable, and they always have the large orders ready on time for pickup. Bright spots on the menu are the extra moist brisket, the sausage, the pork loin, and the chocolate pudding. I wish the side dishes were a little better and I wish there were more of them. Some cobbler would be a nice addition too!

I have to admit this place was rocken. Yeah the lines are very long, but worth the wait. They sell everything in a bottle, big red, Dr. Peppter, etc. I definitely loved the food, the brisket was awesome and not dried. Chicken was okay a little dry for me. The ribs were very good and moist. I loved the coleslaw and potato salad for sure and the cream corn, can not go wrong with that. Definitely come back for sure. I think it is better than Saltlick.

I'm sure this Rudy's has great food as the place seemed to be packed the last time we went through there. This review is for the parking situation and has nothing to do with the food. Which I like. Lots. We actually were going to the Shell to get gas and were confronted by the crappiest parking lot situation I've seen in ages. Granted, it was a Sunday and I know the outlets were jumping that day, but holy crap, did that gas station suck, along with the crazy parking lot that popped up all around the gas pumps. There were people parked illegally everywhere, people trying to squeeze their large family transports around said illegally and haphazardly parked cars, and pedestrians wandering all over the place. I had one van pass literally within an inch of our car, after which, the guy just decided to completely block one of the lanes. Seriously, if parking is like that all the time, you can count me out as I don't think my blood pressure could take it. I'm definitely not in Round Rock enough to eat here, and I can easily visit one of the 3 or 4 locations here in San Antonio, but my main point is: just beware the parking. I'm getting the heebie jeebies just thinking about it again.

Telling the staff that I want lean, they give me beef jerky dry, I ask for moist I get a lean almost dry thing I ask for extra fat I get a smart remark "we don't want you to get sick". That was 4 years ago, you haven't changed.

OUTSTANDING BBQ - highly recommended by hosts who took us there for lunch - everything from the creamed corn to the brisket was just mouthwatering - love that it is built with gas station connected - anytime you have a chance to pop in here, DO IT!!

The moist brisket will make you fall on your knees. The creamed corn will make you fall on your knees. They will help you realize that bbq restaurants in NY, while good, are still just the little runt brother. We stopped by here for our bbq fix en route to Lake Travis as it was the closest Rudy's location to the lake. We got on line and some of the friendliest counterpeople I've ever encountered greeted us and let us sample virtually the whole menu. These guys knew their meat as they explained every single cut to us naive northeasterners. As is the custom here, we ordered the bbq by the 1/4 pound, and got a pound of brisket, some st. louis ribs, pork loin, creamed corn, cole slaw, and were given about 12 slices of white bread to accompany the feast. As I've already blurted out before, Rudy's moist brisket were juicy, tender pieces of flavorful, smoky beef that were as satisfying as a piece of luger porterhouse. The things that they can do with red meat at Rudy's should make every carnivore-catering restaurant jealous. The creamed corn was more like sweet cream with pieces of corn thrown in, but wow, it was awesome. Despite my arteries hardening with each bite, I could not stop digging out spoonfuls of this magical sludge. While the pork loin was easily the leanest of the cuts we ordered, it still was mouth-wateringly juicy. If I had any complaints, it would be the ribs--they seemed a little tough and dry for my taste and I found myself dousing them with copious amounts of sauce. Regardless of the ribs, Rudy's has made me see the light. TX brisket is not to be messed with.

I love Rudy's. Their meats are juicy and flavorful, and their BBQ sauce is drinkable. I love their creamed corn. This time, we went for the breakfast tacos a coworker told me about. I never thought to chop up a bunch of BBQ and put it in a breakfast taco and douse it in BBQ "sause". I got a potato, egg, & cheese with the meat. The potatoes were crunchy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The eggs were perfectly cooked, fluffy. The tortilla was good too. They had 3 different hot sauces to choose from, a regular, a hot, and a green. They were all good, I did not have a preference. I am happy that we discovered Rudy's breakfast tacos. I have a feeling I will be sending the hubby on a morning Rudy's run soon.

Amazing BBQ. I get the sausage and lean brisket. Family of 3 with food left over for $30. This is my son's favorite place because you eat on paper on picnic style tables. Just wish they had better dessert options.

I know it seems hard to believe that a chain restaurant can turn out BBQ this well, but they do. Knowing how difficult it is to smoke a brisket properly has me amazed every time I come here. I would love to know how many pounds of brisket they sell on a given Saturday. It is always cooked well, and I don't know if I can remember ever having it dry. The sausage is good, the St. Louis pork ribs are great, and even the prime rib I got one time was very good. My favorite sides are the beans (highly seasoned, nice and peppery) and the new potatoes (swimming in butter, lightly salted). I actually like it better than Salt Lick, and it's cheaper too. You may be able to get better brisket at Kreutz's, better ribs at Cooper's, etc., but to get high quality BBQ across the board in one place, Rudy's has never disappointed. The BBQ sauce on the side is my absolute favorite as well. It has just the perfect amount of a little sweetness and a lot of spice.

Being from LA, I asked my husband if brisket was the same as roast beef. Boy was I ever wrong! Nothing in LA compares to Texas BBQ for sure!!! Brisket was so good that I wanted to order it online and have it shipped. Extra moist, sausages, bbq sauce & that bread is the way to go! We got extra and gave some to my BIL who was at work!

I love Rudy's. I finally learned that if you order extra moist outside cut on the brisket you get the perfect combination of crispy and tender. I wish the ribs were a little better but the sausage is great and the creamed corn is the best I have ever had. Great bottled drink options and traditional Texas BBQ butcher paper but I like sauce and Rudy's does it right.

Straight off the plane and I'm hungry. Luckily driving along the I-35 heading towards Round Rock, I caught the billboard stating that Rudy's was just a few exits away. Score! My BBQ desires will finally be satisfied. Entering Rudy's, I mosey on over to the counter where I scan the menu, overwhelmed at all the choices. The counter girl helps me choose the moist brisket, baby back ribs, a link of jalapeno sausage, and side of cream corn. I take my order organized neatly in a plastic rectangular basket and head to one of the long picnic tables to dive right in. The moist brisket was delectable, juicy, and disintegrated after your initial bite. The jalapeno sausage was unique and had a mild pepperiness from the embedded chopped jalepenos. The cream corn was subtlely sweet, with great textural aspects from the plump corn kernels. Sadly, the downside was the baby back ribs which I expected to be fall-off-the-bone quality. This time they were dry and took a while to pry the meat off the bone with my teeth. You must have their sauce which adorns each table in a large bottle complete with spout. My initial experience with Rudy's was more than satisfactory. I'll stay away from those baby backs but definitely come back for the brisket.

I ate super healthy in preparation for my late lunch here at Rudy's and it sure was worth it. I had a small cole slaw, half a sausage link, 1/4 lb of moist brisket, 1/2 rack baby back ribs and put the goods together in the white bread, onions and pickles. I always thought that combo was not all that great but when I sunk my teeth into this mix of goodness, I wasn't disappointed. I'm already thinking of my next meal there which will most likely include their pork ribs and probably their cutters choice brisket.

Holy crap, Rudy's has good BBQ. Brisket is as melt in your mouth, tasty, and moist as you can get. I've haven't had better. The other BBQ options are also all tasty, but the brisket seems to be the pot of gold here. Great counter service, and let them know you're a first time customer and they will bring you samples of all the different meats to try. Great sides and drinks too, I love this place. Watch the crowd at lunch time though, it's better to go around 11 or 1:30 to beat the crowd.

I eat at various Rudy's locations all the time and the food and service is always top notch. Unfortunately, this time, the service really wasn't. I usually eat at the Rudy's on 183 and have never had any issue at all. After visiting with some of the employees behind the counter, I was encouraged to take advantage of the Military discount there as their way of saying "Thank you" to me for my service. As a result, I eat there throughout the work week, sometimes every day, as it's kind of close to my office. As a Disabled Veteran, any company that appreciates Veterans gets my business and that of my friends and family - it just helps that the food is great! I eat at this Rudy's (on 35) in my off-time when I don't want to drive all the way to 183 from Pflugerville, but from now on I'll just take the trip. I offered my VA ID with my credit card at checkout only to have the girl behind the counter smile and inform me that I'm only eligible for my discount when ordering for "here", not when ordering "to go". Really? All I can still think is, wow, your company really only wants to say "Thank You" to Veterans but only when we have the time to eat in house? And then, with a smile, declares that she's just "following company policy". Great food, ridiculously illogical Military discount policy that seems to only be "company policy" at this location. I'll just drive to the 183 location from now on, ridiculous solution for a ridiculous dilemma. Minus 3 stars.

This is where it all started for me folks. I surprised a college roommate when I was in town interviewing for a job the next day. After driving me around the town he took me here and said I had to try some TX BBQ. I was disappointed he wanted to take me to BBQ (I only had mediocre and below experiences before moving to TX). We stood in line, I got the "rookie" treatment. I ordered brisket and turkey, creamed corn and took that, the bread and a Mexican Coke to a table and spread out my plate (sheet of wax paper). The whole time my buddy was educating me on TX BBQ. I didn't understand why anyone would get so into BBQ, then I took a bite.... Whoa! What is this?!? I made a few sandwiches and ate everything, and then devoured the container of creamed corn which I swear is laced with crack because I keep wanting it. Needless to say, I got the job, we bought a house down the road and I have tried many of the BBQ places around (including this Rudy's a few times a month). I like that they are always on their game and have made minor improvements in their operations while maintaining consistent quality. I only wish they cut their turkey a little thicker, I always forget to ask them to do that. I'm rating them a 5 since it changed my eating life forever and it's their brisket that I always compare all other BBQ places to - something about their rub that I really like. And I almost forgot, I love their breakfast burritos. Almost as much as their BBQ...

One of my favorite bbq places in TX and a place I recommend out of towners check out. I remember the first time I had the creamed corn here...I thought to myself...are you SERIOUS?? It was devine. It was creamy. It was sweet. It was heavenly. Another fave side of mine are the potatoes in butter (?). I think I'm having a heart attack. The meats are tasty and the bbq sauce has a peppery kick to it which I'm a huge fan of. Love getting the pork loin, pork rib and briskets. The moist brisket is melt in your mouth, but obviously I try to stay away from that since it's pretty darn fatty. Sausages are tasty too. Eat more meat!

This place simply just f'ing kicks ass! I loved every time I went here (which was like 7 times!). They will provide you whatever quantity of meat you want/ need. I love how it's set up like a meat smokin' factory!! This place doesn't mess around--they have one goal--to fill your stomach with some badass meat!

  • Rachel J.

Oh LAWD! I'm looking forward to the day I relocate and I can both fill up my gas tank AND pick up a pound of smoked meat for dinner. Genius! I could base my review/love on those two elements and it would still be the same rating. It's an interesting niche. It's all about the moist brisket. i wasn't too impressed with the ribs, but that may be due to that fact that by the time I got around to the ribs on my table, they were cold. I'll give the ribs a second chance, but it may never happen as my eyes become clouded from the sight of glorious moist brisket that I must have in my mouth. Aside from the meat, the sides are pretty standard. I like the creamed corn. Growing up I was one of those kids who liked corn everything, and creamed corn is right up my alley.

I must admit when we first moved to Texas a year ago we drove past this place. Sure we had to giggle at the logo of it was the worst BBque. (we did find out that the worst was Smokey Moe's and Salt Lick), but we never took the time to stop. I don't know, something about getting "good bbque" at a gas station...really?? Well, a few weeks back we did stop and I am kicking myself for not stopping sooner. When my hubby wants to get his brisket on...we have to drive to Lockhart. But if we wanna stay local the only place we will go is to Rudy's!!! From the sides to the sauce and everything in between we love it! Can not get enough of the creamed corn. Being newbies we were offered tastes of various items and when they offered up the corn, well to be polite we took a taste. OMG!!! So good makes you wanna slap somebody! I am sure there are many places left for us to get our "Q" on, but Rudys will fix that craving and leave you wanting more.

  • James L.

Simply the best brisket around. And you don't have to wait that long. Usually you can get your food in minutes. Don't forget gotta ask for extra moist!

  • Nat M.

This Rudy's is hardly busy, which is a PLUS PLUS! Only thing I can complain about is that their brisket seems to get much more fatty lately. Switching back to cutters choice. Our whole family loves Rudys, other place can be hit or miss, in Round Rock and it's a pain just to drive in to Austin with traffic. Overall, we love coming here breakfast, lunch or dinner, tea is always great, place is always clean and the staff is always friendly, when everything else fails, we go to old faithful!

Thank You Rudy's Country Store and Bar-B-Q (on Research Blvd) for a Texas BBQ Redemption!!!! Tried Blacks BBQ in Lockhart yesterday. It was awful, overpriced and completely disappointing. We were told to try Rudy's and are sooo happy we did. Everything was great right from the "rookie from Phoenix" start to the tasting and guidance in ordering. We ordered the moist brisket, plain and jalapeño sausage and the turkey with coleslaw, beans and creamed corn sides. ALL of it was great. Can't forget the bottled creamed soda my daughter loved( first time trying) Hope we have time to come back before we leave Texas. You should consider opening in PHOENIX too. Once again WE LOVED IT AND THANK YOU!!!! :DDDD

It was my first time going to Rudy's and was impressed from the time I walked in the door. The employees are nice and when you let them know its your first time..They graciously give you a tour and let you know what Rudy's is about. Even with my group of 7 of us, because it was our first time, they gave us samples of a few of their items..the moist brisket, sausage, turkey..and even their creamed corn. We tried out their moist brisket, sausage, baby back ribs, potato salad, coleslaw as well as their creamed corn. Other than what you order, they provide you with unlimited amounts of onions, pickles, white bread and their yummy Rudy's BBQ sauce are provided in bottles at every table. Their moist brisket is what is decribed..and yes, ladies and gentleman, it is definitley moist! This by far was my favorite out of the meats we ordered. Brisket was so moist it melted in my mouth. Thats how heavenly it was! ;) All their sides were pretty good..but what stood out from the sides was the creamed corn. SO good we had to get a second order to bring home. You don't even need to get dessert when you have creamed corn from Rudys! The food and service is excellent and would definitely come back to this establishment. You've gained another fan of your BBQ, Rudy's!

WTF Gas and BBQ... So weird but it doesnt matter cause this BBQ is LEGIT! Too legit to quit (sorry had to do it)! Extra moist brisket *droool* where have you been all my life!!! Coleslaw is damn goood! Creamed corn! I would like to say one of the best creamed corns I have eaten but I cannot because my friend ridiculously overly hyped it! The only thing I didnt like was the sauce, I prefer Saltlicks sauce but rudys is def better in the meat area! -420-

I've had barbeque all over, from Lambert's to Louis Mueller's to County Line and Salt Lick. Those other places may win out in reputation, style, or critical acclaim, but the Rudy's brisket is in the upper echelon when it comes to straight up taste. I'm not a huge fan of the atmosphere. Eating in a gas station is interesting, and all the yelling makes my head hurt. I'm willing to look past that and miss out on the mystique and magic of other bbq joints because Rudy's in Round Rock makes darn good barbecue. The only side I usually take is the complimentary white bread to whip up some sammiches. The sides are not too special, but the banana pudding rocks. The made to order breakfast tacos are very nice as well. Try a spicy chop bbq and potato taco and thank me later. Finally, I'm not sure what they do, but their fountain soft drinks are the best around. So soothing for a weekend hangover.

While I don't frequently eat at places with a view of a gas station, this BBQ was worth it. Served on butcher paper, you order meat by the pound and choose your sides. One thing I like about Rudy's is the choice of sides (potato salad, cole slaw, cream corn, new potatoes, bean, etc.) and the peppery rubs on all the meats. Don't expect sweet BBQ or for it to be smothered in sauce - the meat is good all on its own with the dry rub. The long wooden picnic tables are great for an informal meal. We had the ribs and the brisket, but you really can't go wrong with the meat. If you're a rookie (as we were), they'll let you try the different kinds so you can decide what you want.

Go here if you like BBQ family style. Nothing fancy, not great, NOT healthy (no veggies) & definitely not the best... just BBQ. The brisket is the best thing they have and about all I get.

Love the food, but the process how our order was handled, there was no excise for it. We ordered 1/2 pound of turkey and after our order was placed they put the sold out sign next to it. The next person in line started saying "wait, I only came here for the turkey", he then was called up to the counter to place his order. At this time we notice out turkey (the last of it) was given to the customer that was behind us. When we told the cashier she shrugged her shoulders & didn't tell the cashier next to her that there was a mistake. She then called the manager who said he would look "in the back" to see if they had any. They were able to find a 1/4 lb. After we sat down another manager was walking around and we notified her of the mix up, though apologetic she stated "well I wasn't there", that was obvious. We were not looking for free food, it was just the principle.

First let me say that I called ahead to get some information and the person who answered the phone was extremely rude and hung up on me before I could finish my questions. Still I took a chance because so many people have recommended it. Now, we were given a sample and the moist brisket was very nice. A tad more smoky than I am accustomed to but it was good none the less. I did not care for the bbq sauce but it wasn't really needed. All in all it was a good meal at a decent price.

Rudy's is a great local bar-b-q restaurant here in Central Texas. Great food and good service. If you like Bar-B-Q, you need to come to Rudy's. The Moist Brisket is my favorite, followed by the Prime Rib. I have eaten everything on the menu here, and nothing disappoints.

I have to mention on here that I grew out on this stuff. Having lived in Austin, I have been to just about every good BBQ restaurant within 100 miles, and I can tell you for consistent delicious, fast BBQ, Rudy's is a winner. I am sure in individual categories, I could name 2-5 places individually better, but no one offers the whole suite of BBQ so well. Here is my normal order: 1/2 pound moist 1/2 pound Saint Louie Half a Hottie What will arrive if you order this is some delicious beef brisket, a good number of pork ribs, and half of a jalapeno sausage. Depending on your size, you may need to share this with someone. Your stomach will thank me.

For what it is, Rudy's is great. No, this isn't fancy schmancy eatin'. But for a spot that you can go in, snag a breakfast taco or two and get along your way for the day it's perfect. A couple of years ago, being new to Austin, we happened to be buying gas one day noticed the BBQ restaurant and the "grab and go" taco bar and made a mental note to try it. Well, boy howdy we did and it totally screwed our diets for the next 6 months. You have a couple of choices for the Rudy's Breakfast. You can "grab and go" at the heated taco bar or you can make your own. I've found that Rudy's hasn't sterred me wrong yet, so we usually just "grab" what's already been made, after much hemming and hawing. There's the usual egg and bacon, egg and sausage (that would be sliced bbq sausage), and egg and potato (squares, not boiled potatoes). What makes the egg ones so great is the egg itself, which has great salty, peppery, buttery flavor... no hard scrambled icky mess here yo. You have three choices from the salsa bar (mild, hot and green) and all are good. Once you figure out the egg options you've got to make some tough decisions-- there are some special items. The Chopped Taco is basically a BBQ beef sandwich in a tortilla. Heaven! Also there are pigs n' blankets and pigs n' cheese. A hungover girl's dream!

During my visit in Texas, my family stopped at Rudy's for lunch. We had the smoked turkey and beef brisket, corn, potatoes and beans. I liked the turkey and sides but didn't care for the beef brisket. It was a nice restaurant, had a fire place facing the dining area.

Personally, my favorite BBQ place in town. I have tried many of the others, but I keep coming back to Rudy's. The moist brisket is amazing. Beautiful char, moist, and tasty. I take a few pieces, put em on a piece of white bread, add pickles, onions, and some of their sauce, and that's a little piece of heaven. I'm also a huge fan of the jalapeno sausage. Great snap, great flavor, and consistently good. The creamed corn is delicious, and I really dont want to know whats in it, because it has to be unbelievably bad for you! I also really like the new potatoes - yum! Honestly, I've never tried their ribs. I'm more of a brisket/sausage/turkey guy, and these are all great there. One side note - the last time we went, we ordered a pound of the moist brisket. When it came out, it was fattier than normal. I tried to eat some, but it was so fatty it was unenjoyable. I brought it back up to the counter, and the guy immediately took it back and cut us a new pound, no questions asked. The manager then came out to our table, apologized for us not being happy about our order, and gave us a Rudy's gift card to use next time we go. THAT'S good customer service! I will definitely be coming back again, and soon!

Wow Nuff said! They were awesome. This was our first venture at rudys and they brought samples of every meat and let you try the sides so you know what you want. I strongly suggest the creamed corn... Uuhhh so good. I had chicken and my husband had briskett... Omg get the brisket. I think it was the best I had! The resturant was attached to a gas station! Wow must eat.

Outside looks like a gas station with a restaurant inside, but let me tell you something, this is the best bar-b-que that I have ever try, delicious to perfection, we order extra moist brisket and big pork ribs, just wonderful, you really tasting the real Texas and best Bar-b q in Texas. I really recommend this place !

This place was pretty good. We really liked how they really help new customers learn how to order and gave us samples so we knew which meat we would prefer. We enjoyed the learn brisket, turkey, and coleslaw. We ended up ordering way to much and had left overs for the next day which were just as good!

I LOVED Rudy's. L-O-V-E-D the place! It was my maiden voyage into Texas BBQ and this place did not disappoint; from the atmosphere to the extremely helpful and friendly staff. The food was wonderful; my dining partner and I were both in a "Food Coma". Planning to go back to Texas and to Rudy's in only a few days and my mouth is already watering.

The first place I ate at after moving to Austin was Rudy's as it was pretty much tradition to take the "new guy" there if they were not from Texas. Rudy's is excellent stand-by central-Texas style BBQ. They do have a sauce, which they call "sause", that is intense and peppery. Some Texas style BBQ joints have not yet discovered sauce, but Rudy's is not one of them. This is the BBQ that, although perhaps not the best around, all others are compared to. All of the rib styles, the sausage, and the moist brisket are the best things on the menu. The moist brisket makes great brisket sandwiches. The lean brisket is good. Chicken fairs okay, and the pork loin and turkey breast are passable, relatively low-fat alternatives. Sides are really a matter of taste, and are similar to other recipes in the region. Desserts are kind of a joke. I'll eat them, but I won't buy them. They always provide plenty of white bread, sliced pickles, and onions as part of your meal for no additional charge.

Outside of my dad's backyard and my pit...Some of Austin's best Barbecue! I really like the butcher paper, sweet tea, spicy sauce and the pickles; moist brisket, jalapeno sausage, turkey, and cream corn! This is a place where dreams come true, a pound of brisket or a few St. Louis Ribs! YUM, really like lick yo fingers good. I like taking my friends from out of town here and watching their reaction when I pull up to the gas station and saying that it is the "worst barbecue is Texas" GREAT PLACE TAKE EVERYONE YOU KNOW!

I have eaten at Rudy's many times, and every time I enjoy it thoroughly. The first thing that might throw you off is that every Rudy's is in a gas station. I know it surprised me a little the first time I went, but have no fear. Great Bar-B-Q awaits inside. If you have never eaten there before make sure you tell the person at the counter - they will let you sample anything on the menu to make sure you like it. The brisket, is fantastic, the sausage is better than most, the turkey is good, basically everything is great. The sauce is in large bottles at the table so you can pour it on. Everything you order is by weight, and is served with plenty of white bread. Also, make sure you order the creamed corn. I typically don't like creamed corn, but Rudy's is amazing. The corn is so sweet and in such a good base it is a must try. I never go to the Austin area without eating at least one meal at Rudy's.

My Rudy's Cheer!!! Rudy's is the B-E-S-T best!!! B= Bar-B-que- The brisket and "hottie" will have you coming back! E= Eat perfect turkey on Thanksgiving, take it home in a Rudy's sack! S= Serve yourself and save your tip money, casual and perfectly laaaaaid back! T= Texas style: this place smells like Texas (meat smokin, BBQ sauce, and gasoline) it sounds like Texas (half country music half traffic noises) it taistes like Texas (the best flavor there is!) there are maps of Texas on the walls and the Texas flag, heck even the guy taking your order might be named "Texas" but even if he is not he will treat you to some Texas hospitality... okay I got on a little rant there and lost my cheer vibe, but you get the point. Go here. Eat here. Repeat!

Awesome bbq, best breakfast tacos around, friendly and quick service, cool ambiance. Gentleman I assume is Manager almost always present, checking on things and making sure customers are happy. Strong presence in the community, and supportive of recycling, water conservation, veterans' causes, etc. pretty much all one can ask for in a bbq place. oh, and best drive-thru car wash in town as well (when it's operational!).

The whole family loves the BBQ here. We like it all, from the ribs to the sausage.

Not bad food for a place whose slogan is "Worst BBQ in Texas." There's a distinct no frills atmosphere - Rudy's even doubles as gas station(though it's clear that the focus is on the restaurant). I loved their BBQ sauce, it's not vinegary and has a nice slow building heat to it. Upon finding out that I hadn't been there before, they yelled ROOKIE, and proceeded to give me a sampling of their choices of meat and sides. I went with the moist brisket which was tender, juicy, and had just the right amount of smokiness within. They gave me a few slices of generic white bread to be used as a BBQ delivery system. Once you get your food in a beverage case(which has edges that are too high to eat directly out of), you can find seating both indoors and out on their glorified picnic tables.

Best meal I've ever eaten at a gas station. I got the extra juicy, fatty brisket. I thought I was completely brisket-ed out, and was planning to order something else, but the super-smiley dude at the counter gave us the "rookie" treatment and allowed us to taste everything before ordering. Post sampling, I came to the conclusion that I hadn't quite had my fill of brisket. YUM!! Sauce was good. Slaw was good. Not sure what it is about the hot sauce in TX though. No spice to this one. No worries though, good meat doesn't require burn.

Almost everyone I know and have met loves Rudy's. I'm not sure why. It's not terrible, but it's not earth-shattering good either. The meat is okay, the sides are okay... Pretty much, it's an okay place. The sauce I don't particularly like because they only have one time and it's sort of spicy. I like how they serve everything in butcher paper and coke trays, but the food is just... okay. However, it's a great place for groups as you don't need reservations, and the seating is all picnic table-style. Overall, the atmosphere is great, but the food is just okay.

The BBQ here is fantastic. We got the extra moist brisket, creamed corn, sausage, potato salad, and banana pudding. The brisket was fantastic. The creamed corn - I am love with it.

wow, i have heard about this but never had the chance to go until this weekend and MAN what have i been missing?!? the girls and I grabbed beers and headed to the line to order. an amazing thing to try: green chili stew. you can order a small and it still ends up being a great side item and it is G_O_O_D good! i got the turkey and no bread or bun, but really enjoyed the sauce and my half slice of jalapeno sausage. definitely will come back here though next time for the brisket or pulled pork. i have heard their bfast tacos stinkin rock also.

Your hands are not clean. Use the cool, swirling sanitizer and put a "I have clean hands" sticker on your shirt. Walk purposefully through the line and proudly display to the world that you are no longer a slob. Don't fall for the multitude of iced down drinks along the way, because if you are strong, you will be rewarded with lovely sweet iced tea after you order your food. Try not to doze off while waiting and being overwhelmed by the menu choices. If you do, you will surely wake to the shouts of "Next in Line!!!". It is now your turn to step up and make us proud. Tell them you have never been to Rudy's and they will treat you to some samples. Now choose from lean brisket, moist brisket, turkey breast, pork loin, chopped beef, baby back ribs, pork spare ribs, chicken or sausage. If I am ordering for myself I get anywhere up to a pound of stuff. You can order things in quarter pound sizes, but don't be afraid to order too much because then you will either have food to share with your friends or lunch for tomorrow. Your meat and sides and some bread will be tossed into a big tray on butcher paper. Now comes the part which desperately needs some process engineering. Squeeze into the corner and grab some pickles, onions and Rudy's sause. Fill up your cups with ice and drinks and then grab some plastic silverware and napkins. If it is not 101 degrees outside, then go out and sit on the picnic tables amongst the masses. Eat your stuff and even though you will be tempted to call out "Food Fight!" and begin tossing around what is left over, resist the temptation and politely take your leftovers home with you. As if all this goodness wasn't enough, they also have breakfast tacos in the morning and groovy desserts like banana or chocolate pudding. You will definitely leave this joint with a smile on your face and a full tummy.

Setting: "The worst BBQ in Texas!" Yes, it definitely is...in a good way! Very country, very casual. Very very casual! You just order at the counter, bring your food to any of the tables, place paper mat on table, place food on paper mat...that's it. Very messy, and very fun...if you're into this kind of thing of course. Just pour their special "sause" on everything and you're good to go. Fun times! It's also a gas station, so good for people on the go, especially on long trips. Food: One of the best BBQ I've ever tasted. I suggest going for one of their samplers to try everything with their "sause." But if you absolutely just have to get 1 thing only, get the brisket. You won't regret it. Probably the best I've had. The only gripe I have is that they only have 1 sauce. Well, they have what they call "sissy sause" which you have to get at the front. It's not as spicy. But believe you me, they will call you out and let everyone kno you're getting the sissy sauce. My suggestion, don't even try it. Stick with the original. :) Service: Not much to it really. You order food then you're on your own. But please, bus your paper mats. It can get mighty messy.

This was the first place i came to when i visited my brother back in November 2010. The food was great. I especially like the brisket. I come back to this place again if i visit round rock again.

Worst BBQ in Texas ;) (Hey it's their slogan) I've always been a fan of the brisket, and ribs at any of the franchises scattered around town. The sausage isn't my personal favorite, but it will do in a pinch. The lines move quick, the employees are friendly, and very helpful. They are a bit proud of their BBQ price wise.

I've heard so much about Rudy's and even seen it featured on some cable show which topic was BBQ (go figure) in the U.S. anyhow I stopped in and was pretty shocked at the amount of people who were already there in such a small place with limited parking. Once I stepped out of my vehicle the aroma of BBQ filled my senses. Just from the smell I knew it had to be good. I mean, How could so many people who talked about this place be wrong? They weren't. The food was delicious, the place was clean and the staff was courteous. I've only tried a few BBQ places and this one is head and shoulders above all the others by far. I would recommend anyone traveling through Austin to stop in and enjoy what so many people have already. However if you are watching your weight this probably isn't for you. The food and sauce is so good you'll only want more.

I'm in Austin once a month for work and usually I have a Canadian BBQ newbie with me. Rudy's is consistently outstanding not only for Q but more so customer service as they treat newbies very well. Everything is good there but some things stand out: turkey, hot links and that creamed corn. I look forward to bringing more first timers.

omg i love this place. everyone is always REALLY friendly & aware of your precious time (especially jessica. jennifer? crap, i forgot her name. woops.). and of course the food rocks. i love the extra moist brisket, just had the chicken (couldve used a little more spice to it), and of course the butter potatoes. id hate to think of how many calories & fat they contain. LUCKILY, im not the calorie countin' kinda girl! love the food, love the people, love the fact that its not TOO far of a detour from my way home. SOMETIMES it becomes a little pricey, but whatever. its damn worth it!

Don't be fooled by the fact that this BBQ joint is also a gas station. Rudy's has some of the best BBQ in Austin! Very clean facility with wonderful service! Casual atmosphere that's very family friendly. Love the sausage links, the brisket, the super soft & fresh white bread, and of course... the Banana Pudding! Yummm!!!

Love Rudy's extra lean brisket. Moist, tender, hardly any fat on it- delicious. Must have! Their smoked turkey is great as well. Salty, juicy- delicious! Super cheap prices too. And yes- I was called out as a rookie- ha! Best customer service ever- they actually fixed us up a couple of bites of meat so we could sample our options before ordering- since it was our first time. Super friendly, polite and helpful employees. Rudy's is destined to become a staple in my restaurant arsenal here in Round Rock!

On vaycay from sunny San Diego in sunny Austin Texas. Lots more bugs out here but anyway... I really dig Rudys brisket-and I'm pretty picky about my brisket having grown up in Kansas City. I got the extra moist and it lived up to its billing. Nice crisp bark on the outside, super moist tasty brisket with a nice oaky flavor, good smoke ring. The sides: we got the potato salad and the cole slaw. They were all right-tater salad was a little sweet for my taste and the slaw was standard. Tried my table mates ribs and they were good-really peppery rub which I liked and pretty tender and meaty. Sauce is really good a tiny bit of sweetness and then black pepper and a tad spicy-tasty stuff. Get pudding for dessert-both the banana (a Texas bbq joint staple served with 'nilla wafers on top) and the chocolate were super good and kind of cut through that heavy bbq. Now if I could just get old Rudy to open up a spot in SD I'd be set.

  • David P.

Hot damn!! Still far and away my favorite bbq. The sausage is my wifes favorite but I love their brisket. Now they have an extra moist that has the most marbling. It also had some edge pieces so it was almost like burnt ends...awesome. The turkey is some of the best turkey i've ever had. Top it all off with the fresh white bread and some rudy sause and i'm good. If it was any earlier i'd drive right back as I have made myself hungry again.

While visiting my brother's family in Austin this was the first restaurant we ate at. First timers get a big welcome and a sampling of all the meats. We chose the brisket. 1.25 lbs for three people. No sauce required. Perfectly smoked. For sides we chose slaw, creamed corn, and of course pickles and onions for our brisket. There are no plates in this restaurant. Just wax paper and the entire meal is served to you in what looked like old plastic soda containers. Seating is looong rows of picnic tables. Pricing seemed a bit high for lunch (32.00 for three) but well worth it. If every other meal in TX is as good as this one I stand to gain a few pounds this week. Great experience. The banana pudding was terrific too!

Rudy's was the first place I ate when we came to Austin to look for a house to move to. What a great first impression. Amazing food, and what a fun atmosphere! I love how customizable the meal was. Pretty darn cheap, too! I will definitely be frequenting this place now that we've moved to the area! I'd recommend to all my friends.

Oh sweet baby I am in love with this Rudy's. The brisket is amazing, I want to eat nothing but the creamed corn for the rest of my life. Do I need half a loaf of bread for me and my ONE dining companion? No...but I will take it because Rudy's was so generous to offer it. The night I went it was actually ALMOST cool outside and we sat on the patio. I think it was the best night of my BBQ lovin' life.

Just moved here to Round Rock and wanted BBQ. Someone told us about Rudy's so we tried it out. I love the Extra Lean Brisket. I'm not fond of their BBQ so we take it home and I use Sweet Baby Ray on mine. I think the price is pretty reasonable.

  • Anastasia T.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! I normally am not a fan of brisket, but their extra lean brisket is the way to go! It is moist and SO flavorful. This past time I was there I tried the turkey and it was so pink and moist it really was incredible. You HAVE to try the ribs as well, there is no gristle and the meat melts in your mouth. The last time I was there we also tried every side and I have no complaints about any of them. The atmosphere is eclectic and fun. I will be coming here every chance I get.

  • David C.

The ambience is great for a chain restaurant. I love the park benches, the butcher paper, the plexi-glass sectional doors, etc. Normally, I'm not a fan of ordering at a counter, but it is part of the experience here. Outstanding brisket and the cream corn is very good.

If you watch the Travel Channel or The Food Network, you'll know that Rudy's is one of the Top 5 BBQ restaurants in the USA. I go there and back that rating myself! You tell them this is your first visit and they will give you samples of everything, then you make your choice. Great food, great sauce, great service.

Why drive for miles for BBQ when Rudy's is right here in Round Rock and it has some of the best brisket and st louie ribs around plus the new potatoes and creamed corn are to die for! Love the spicy bbq sauce.

BBQ is excellent, moist with a great rub. Sold by the pound like a traditional Texas BBQ joint. Beans are best in the city. These guys go out of their way to please.

Barbecue, like Pizza is the most subjective of eating experiences. One mans nirvana is another gals Hades. Having lived in several of the places that consider themselves the home of Q, I try to place things in context. Austin area chain Rudy's is Texas cue which means spicy dry rubbed beef brisket or failing that Elgin sausage done in real wood smoke. (For cued pork go to K.C. or Memphis. For cued chicken go to any big city and get off the freeway at Martin Luther King Blvd) Stick to the central Texas specialties and Rudy's will not disappoint. It may not be the best in the area but its the most convenient. The usual Hill country sides of Beans, Cole slaw, "Nanner pudding" etc are executed competently and available in tubs to go or spread out on one of the picnic tables... Service is quick and well... really loud.. Make that really really LOUD. It''s a also a great spot to get gas in the morning and a couple of breakfast burritos. Prices are very reasonable and the quick service take out can't be beat on game day. It's also not a bad spot to bring the kids after little league. Just line em up in the yard and hose them off before you let them in the house.

Rudy's BBQ is absolutely AMAZING!!! Brisket (extra moist), Ribs, Creamy Corn, Coleslaw, and Jalapeno Sausage is PERFECT!! Turkey was a bit over dry!! But this is my NEW favorite BBQ place. Love the home style environment!!!! Definitely a place you must try!!

I stopped eating BBQ because of a nasty experience with it. Rudy's has restored me to my proper form. I love it all, from the brisket to the sweet corn. Its all good!

  • Tim C.

Call me commercial but Rudy's does it right. The brisket is always perfect. The ribs are always awesome. The chopped beef always satisfies. The breakfast tacos are also very good. The sauce is spectacular. Been going there for years now and will continue to do so. My only gripe is that they are fairly expensive for what it is. But their quality trumps my stingy wallet. Hooray for Rudy's!!! Gimme a coupon!!!

  • Adam G.

I used to go here 2 or three times a week for the breakfast tacos. the service is good and the tacos are good too. nothing to write home about. if i wanna spend five bucks on a taco and a drink I'll go to Michael's across the street and get 2 gigantic mexican recipe tacos that don't seem like an afterthought from a BBQ place.

ONE thing that made me fell in love with this place: CORN CHOWDER!!! Now that I am back in CA, I crave for it bad!! I also like the concept of putting food in the basket (looks like milk crate) and order by poundage.. made me feel like I was going to picnic! FUN. Other than that, the food... the brisket is super moist and juice... very tasty!! AWESOME!!!

  • Thanh H.

this is rudy's best location imo...get the extra moist brisket and cream corn if you aren't working on your diet. pork loin is tasty too! don't be shy if they ask if you're a Rookie!

We visited Rudy's last december while visiting my Brother and Sister-in-law who live in Temple texas. We were told about this place as a must see place to go while in TX and as such we made the trip, my goal while in TX was to eat as much as I possibly could ....and buy a cowboy hat :) both of which I did during my trip. Upon pulling up to Rudy's I was a little skeptical when I see its attached to a gas station and convenience store, but don't let it fool you, being a BBQ place you get in line and order up what you want, there were 6 of us and we ordered the Brisket and some of the Turkey breast, along with sides of beans, coleslaw etc, then they give you your "Bread" which is literally a loaf of Bread you can make sandwiches out of, there were other choices on the menu but we opted for the brisket and turkey, and it was amazing, especially the turkey, I don't know what kind of rub they use but its out of this world. If you're looking for fine dining then this is not the place for you, but if you're looking for good food, and not too expensive, Rudy's is the place to go !!

Chicago is not known for its BBQ and it's definitely not known for its brisket. So when I went to Austin on a business trip, I made it known from the get go that I wanted to try some authentic, down home, BBQ brisket while I was in town. The locals suggested my coworkers and I give Rudy's a try. They warned us it was a "no frills" type of place, which only made Rudy's sound all the more appealing. When my coworkers and I went up to the counter to order, the folks at Rudy's immediately knew we were newbies (they even rang a bell!). Seeing as how we had went there straight from work, I'm guessing our business attire gave us away. In any case, the brisket was indeed terrific. My coworker went with the "extra lean" cut while I opted for the "extra moist" (aka extra fatty) cut. Both were good in their own ways; the flavor of the extra lean was great while the texture of the extra moist was outstanding. My other coworker ordered the turkey, which was also quite good. I must give further kudos for their ribs (we split a rack amongst the three of use) and creamed corn. In summary: terrific food, friendly service and very reasonable prices. I've already been informed that I can expect to be heading back to Austin in the next few months so I'm definitely going to try to make it back to Rudy's soon.

The Round Rock Rudy's is cool because it's right on the highway and easy to find. Actually, it's cool because it features plenty of seats and 32 ounce bottles of beer. On second thought, it's cool because the staff is friendly, the food is awesome, and the side dishes (beans, potato salad, cole slaw) taste like mom used to make. I love Rudy's. I love that I can buy a chopped beef sandwich and a 6 pack of beer to go. I love that that there are pictures all over the walls of Texas quasi-legends who've been there before me. Mostly, I love that Rudy's is a Texas Bar B Q joint thru and thru. No pretense. No agenda. Just good food, good service, and cold beer. That's what a bar b q stand should be, don't you think?

  • m w.

Visiting Round Rock for the first time and my hotel was actually really close to Rudy's I thought I would give it try. I will have to say I was not disappointed. It was definitely a novelty type experience, the place is in the Phillips 66 gas station. The staff was more than friendly. I was asked if it was my first time and when I answered yes, the server put a slice of waxed paper down and asked if I wanted samples. I proceeded to order the moist brisket, 1/2 a link and some cream corn. Generous portions except for the corn which came s, m, l. I had a small. Service was quick. All the food was excellent and I was very happy that I chose Rudy's for my first BBQ dinner in Round Rock. I would definitely eat there again.

    (5)
  • Jeremy W.

This particular Rud'ys sucks. It is cramped, the drink/condiments area is a pain in the ass to get to when there are more than two people. Worst of all, the condiment station doesn't have any jalapenos. Seriously, this was a waste of a drive. Even the sausage didn't taste very good that day.

    (2)
  • Sean M.

Rudy's is a must for BBQ in Texas. Go with a group and order everything so that you can try a little of each meat! The sides are good ( I like the coleslaw). I like the country store appeal and the gas station out front. Beer and BBQ are always good together.

    (4)
  • Randi S.

Pretty darn tasty! Not quite how Grandpa used to make it, but close. BBQ is always very moist; NEVER dry. If you're not looking for a nummy BBQ, their breakfast tacos are badass at well. My friends and I have been eatin' here for a long time and no complaints thus far. Prices are reasonable, service is friendly, and OOBER flavor on all manners of grub. Be sure to try their sides too cause they fall under the tasty category as well. Especially the cream corn :-)

    (4)
  • F. B.

O.K. The parking was not the best, but let's face it, it is really a gas station. The service was friendly and very helpful. I kinda liked the rustic feel with the benches and signs. I'm from the real south and found barbecue beef to be a bit exotic. Yet the three styles of brisket were wonderful. Well seasoned, not too dry. The edges of each slice was a salty bonus with every bite. The turkey breast came in a surprising second with the smoke permeating every strand. I tried the chicken and was not very impressed, but the creamed corn more than made up for my disappointment. I wish I could tell you about the banana pudding, but my wife and kids wiped that out before I had a chance to have any. The price for the meat is by the pound. A bit pricier than I expected, but maybe it just allowed me to eat more than I thought. Overall, I would come back.

  • Melinda A.

Wow. I ate here because it was near my hotel, and I'm glad that I did! They serve you huge amounts of sausages and "extra moist" brisket. I recommend the "extra moist." The potato salad is excellent, too. Don't be turned off by the long line; the cashiers work their way through the line quickly, so you'll be served faster than you think. I also like the atmosphere; it's exactly what I pictured Texas BBQ joints to be like! They also have bottled Cokes from Mexico (real sugar, better taste than U.S. crap)--don't know how usual that is in Texas, but for a Washingtonian, a real treat. This place is amazing!!! Oh--don't be turned away by the fact that they have a gas station out front.

  • Tommy K.

Every time I approach this intersection hungry in Round Rock, I'm faced with a dilemma. Chuy's or Rudy's, Rudy's or Chuy's, Turn left or Turn right. Most of the time I turn left and go to Chuy's, but that doesn't mean that Rudy's isn't excellent, it's just that I love me some tex-mex. The brisket here is so good, as well as the potato salad. Sometimes I get turkey, and its like angels are singing in my mouth. You should also order up a "hottie," which is a sausage with jalapenos cooked into it. Mmmmmmmm.

    (4)
  • Daryl E.

On my list of don't-know-whatcha-got-til-it's-gone eateries. Reliable barbeque and a sauce you will grow to appreciate. Give the smoked turkey a try if you're looking for something lighter. Solid coleslaw and potato salad. Sweet tea. Oh, sweet, sweet tea. Ample family-style seating. And you can fill up with gasoline on your way out. Another place I will hit on my next visit back to Austin.

  • Kirsten M.

Being from California this place seems very Texas to me! It's a gas station, it's BBQ place, it's both. I love that they asked me if I had been there before and then all shouted "Rookie" when I admitted I was a virgin! I was almost full after the samples I was given. I love that you can get exactly how much you want of everything. It was both filling and tasty. Lunch lasted me all thru the rest of my work day and thru the fly home to the SF Bay! I wish we had BBQ like this here. I'll will for sure go back if I am ever in Round Rock again!

  • Chris B.

Nice post-IKEA pit stop on the way back into town. We didn't like it as much as the location on S Capital of Texas Hwy, but perhaps that was due to the screaming kid and random bags of water hanging above the tables. Not sure what that is about... perhaps someone can enlighten me?

    (3)
  • Toby M.

MMM Brisket, MMM sausage, MMM Baby Back ribs. Nothing quite like sitting on their "porch" with a cold Shiner and a piece of butcher paper loaded with meat. If you want to give your whole family, friends, whomever a good taste of Texas style BBQ bring 'em here.

    (4)
  • Matt S.

If you have friends or relatives coming to town and you want to introduce them to something Texan, Rudy's may be the place to go. I really like the food, especially the baby back ribs, but the atmosphere is the best. Located in a gas station you pick up your food in some kind of feed tray with butcher paper in it. No plates, You pull your drink out of a icey-cold bin of drinks before you order your food. The whole experience and the taste of the BBQ is really worth it..

Overpriced for so so bbq. I have never understood all the hype about rudys but I am not impressed. Only thing that is any good is the banana pudding and potatos. Bbq is just ok there are alot of other bbq restraunts just as close where you can get better food for cheaper price. Buy the sauce and take it to another bbq restraunt...
